Just before the long rains ... - I travelled solo to Materuni Waterfall, and it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my trip. Everything was very well organized, and I especially appreciated the smooth logistics — I was picked up right on time from the Viva Supermarket as agreed, and after the trip I was dropped off at my hotel (Chanya Lodge) without any extra fee.
Boni was an excellent guide — friendly, attentive, and very easy to talk to, which made the whole day feel relaxed and enjoyable even as a solo traveler.
The walk to the waterfall is beautiful and full of scenic views, with plenty of opportunities to learn about the local area along the way. The waterfall itself is absolutely stunning — powerful, refreshing, and definitely worth the hike.
One fun part of the experience was getting around by “bajaji” (a local rickshaw), which added a bit of local flavor and made the journey even more memorable. You can laso go for a car (more expensive) or a motorbike (less expensive)
The coffee ceremony was a real highlight. It was not just about tasting coffee, but experiencing the entire traditional process step by step — including roasting the beans and even removing the coffee shells by hand equipped with a special tool before roasting, which made it feel very authentic and engaging. The final cup of coffee tasted incredible.
We also had a delicious local lunch, which was fresh, flavorful, and a perfect way to recharge during the hike.
There are many chances to buy local products such as freshly made coffee, honey, and handmade souvenirs. It’s a great way to support the local community and take a piece of the experience home with you. Bargaining is part of the culture, but it’s best to keep it friendly and not too aggressive.
I would highly recommend this experience. It’s a perfect combination of nature, culture, great food, and genuine local hospitality. It was also a perfect activity before my Kilimanjaro trek starting the next day — a great way to stay active, enjoy the surroundings, and ease into the adventure ahead.

Materuni waterfall amd coffee plantation tour with Bony - I had a great time hiking to Materuni waterfalls followed by a delicious lunch, and then a coffee making tour. Bony, my guide was very knowledgeable and a gracious host. I felt very welcome and we shared a few laughs. The hike to the waterfalls was beautiful and not too long. Afterwards we hiked back to his village and had a traditional lunch that was really tasty and filling. Next we hiked a short distance to the coffee plantation where I was shown how to process and roast organic coffee in the traditional way and got to sample a couple of fresh cups of organic brew. I whole-heartedly recommend this tour and Bony as a guide. It was great way to spend the day in Moshi before starting my Kilimanjaro trek.

Great family trip - Contact great. If helmet desired, then indicate with. Great experience riding a motorcycle to Materuni. Bonuses is a good guide and tells very well. At the family coffee farm you can learn everything about the coffee and make it yourself. Even as a non-coffee drinker, Arabica coffee tastes good. Also the lunch is great. We felt very comfortable. We would recommend anyone.

Experience was 10/10 - Boni was an excellent guide, very punctual, and explained many things to me about the waterfall and the surrounding area. I also had the opportunity to learn a little more about coffee and its processes. His family was very kind and took some lovely photos. As a solo female traveler, the experience was 10/10.

Half day Coffee and waterfall trip with lunch. - This was a last minute booking for the next day and Boni was great at communication and made everything easy.
Was picked up on time by the driver and taken to Boni’s family coffee small holding. He showed how they sort, roast and then drink the coffee, including you in the process with songs and information.
Abdula is Bonis cousin and took me down to the waterfall which as beautiful and he assisted as my own personal photographer 😂.
Lunch was served close by and consisted of local dishes an more food at lunch than you can eat. Well worth it for the day and I would highly recommend Boni and family.

Highly recommended interactive experience - Wonderful, unique, interactive experience with the Chagga Tribe on their working farm. The food was amazing and made the best cup of coffee I’ve ever sipped. The best part was the peaceful atmosphere and Boni and his family. Added bonus was the majestic waterfall.

Amazing day! - Had an amazing day on the tour. Massive thank you to Boni and the team. Boni was really helpful as I booked quite late the day before. I explained my preference to be part of a group and he allowed me to join in with another group which was really kind. Boni drove me on his motorbike upto the tour and was a really safe driver. We trekked over to the waterfall and through the local villages and then visited the coffee plantation and had lunch served to us too. The staff were all so welcoming and were more than happy to answer questions and teach me some swahili too. We had another guide who took us down to the waterfalls who was so knowledgeable about the local farming and history of Tanzania. The day never felt rushed and we were allowed to spend as much time as we needed at each part of the tour. Would definitely recommend this tour. Asante sana to everyone!

Anice day out. - A nice walk, short but steep in places, to Materuni Fallls followed by lunch and a demonstration of preparing coffee beans.
Some people were swimming at the falls. I had vegetarian food - soup, rice with bean stew and spinach, and then fruit. The demonstration was interesting and entertaining, all by members of a village cooperative. Bags of beans were on sale.
It was quite a bumpy drive up the foothills of Kilimanjaro but good to see peopke going about their lives and Udrec was a great driver and teacher of Kiswahili.
