Marangu Gate (1860m) to Mandara Hut (2700m)
Marangu - After breakfast, a driver will transport you from your hotel to Marangu Gate, where you will meet your climbing team. Necessary paperwork and other formalities will be completed at the gate. Once ready, your trek will commence, leading you through the lush rainforest. Alongside the remarkable vegetation, you may spot some primates as you journey to Mandara Hut. After a rest, your guide will take you to the Maundi Crater to enjoy the stunning view of the Kenyan interior.
Mandara Hut (2700m) to Horombo Hut (3700m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - An early breakfast will be served before departing Mandara Hut, moving through the timberline and entering the moor zone. After approximately 4 to 6 hours, you will arrive at Horombo Hut, situated at an altitude of 3700m. From this hut, you will enjoy splendid views of Mawenzi, Kibo, and the expansive Masai steppe.
Horombo Hut (3700m) to Kibo Hut (4700m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - This day involves a long and somewhat challenging trek. The well-maintained trail passes the “Last Water Point” and continues through the “saddle”. Vegetation is sparse in this area, as the plateau connects the main summit Kibo with Mawenzi. Your destination is Kibo Hut, typically reached in about 5 to 6 hours. At Kibo Hut, you will enjoy a hearty early evening meal followed by an early night, as it will be a short night.
Kibo Hut (4700m) to UHURU PEAK (5895m) to Horombo Hut (3700m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today marks your Big Day - the summit day. Starting around midnight, the journey is long and demanding. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, the hike gradually ascends. At sunrise, you will reach the crater rim of Kilimanjaro, the Gillman’s Point (5681m), where the sun will begin to warm the land. The cold of the night will soon be forgotten, and after a 1 to 2-hour climb, you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. Celebrate your summit achievement by taking photos. Return to Kibo Hut for a warm meal, followed by a 1 to 2-hour rest before descending to Horombo Hut.
Horombo Hut (3700m) to Marangu Gate (1860m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - The final stage leads through the moor zone to Mandara Hut (2700m) for lunch. Soon, you will pass through the tropical rainforest again, and after a total of 6 hours of trekking, you will arrive back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m). Here, you will bid farewell to your mountain guides, and a driver will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi. Once there, you can enjoy a warm and relaxing shower and celebrate your successful ascent of Kilimanjaro.
Departure from Tanzania
Moshi - The day is reserved for relaxation and final preparations after the trek before your flight home. Depending on your flight schedule, you may explore Arusha or Moshi town and pick up some souvenirs before heading to the airport. Your driver will be ready to take you to the airport.

The Marangu Route is often referred to as the ‘Coca Cola’ route. A common belief among mountaineers is that the Marangu route presents a less challenging ascent since accommodation is provided in huts, unlike other paths that require tent camping. It includes an elective additional day at the Horombo huts for acclimatization, which is recommended for climbers without past experience in mountain hiking. The journey begins at the park’s main office in the Marangu village and proceeds directly towards Kibo in the west. Travelers trek through verdant rainforests, heathland, and moorlands to reach the alpine desert, culminating in the arctic zone at the summit, before descending the same path.
