Moshi to Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - Distance & Drive time: The journey from Moshi to Tarangire takes approximately 4 to 5 hours (196 km/95 mi). You will be picked up at 7:00 AM from your hotel in Moshi/Arusha and head to Tarangire National Park with a picnic lunch for a full-day game drive. This is Tanzania’s third-largest national park, renowned for its impressive baobab trees that tower over the animals grazing below. The Tarangire River is the heart of this park, famous for hosting some of Africa’s largest elephant herds. You may also spot lions, leopards, cheetahs, lesser kudu, buffalo, oryx, eland, giraffes, and zebras. After a full day in the park, you will travel to the camp/lodge for a delightful dinner and overnight stay.
Karatu to Central Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Distance & Drive time: Traveling from Karatu to Central Serengeti takes about 5.5 to 6 hours (166 km/103 mi). After breakfast, you will journey through the cooler highlands towards the southern Serengeti, reaching the plains of the Serengeti National Park by midday. This is Tanzania’s largest park, featuring diverse habitats and landscapes, including short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps, and lakes. The grassy landscape is dotted with unique rock formations known as kopjes, where predators are often seen. The Serengeti is famous for the annual migration, where hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras travel in search of fresh grass and water. You will spend the night at a lodge/campsite in the central Serengeti, in the Seronera Area.
Central Serengeti (Seronera Area) to North Serengeti (Kogatende region)
Serengeti National Park - Distance & Drive time: The trip from Central Serengeti to North Serengeti takes about 5 hours (105 km). You can choose to have a leisurely breakfast and start your game drives around 9:00 AM with a packed lunch, or embark on an early morning game drive at 6:00 AM. After breakfast, you will depart for North Serengeti with a packed lunch. The morning game drive in Serengeti National Park will allow you to explore the central region and move towards the northern part of the park. The en-route game drive to the Kogatende region offers mild action from the resident wildlife. As you approach the northern Serengeti, the terrain changes from plain grassland to more hilly and rugged landscapes. The northern region is home to a variety of resident wildlife, including zebras, topis, gazelles, buffaloes, leopards, and lions. Depending on your arrival time, you will enjoy a restful night at your accommodation.
Northern Serengeti - Full Day Game Viewing
Serengeti National Park - Between mid-July and November, the migration can be observed in this region. During this period, the river offers the most dramatic crossings of the great wildebeest migration. The fierce, rain-fed river takes a significant toll on the migrating wildebeests. Watching them navigate the torrential flow, with some drowning and others falling prey to lurking crocodiles, is an unforgettable experience. If fortunate, you may witness this natural spectacle and observe nature in action. Following the great migration, you might venture towards the Lobo Valley. The pristine Lobo Valley is characterized by woodlands, plains, hills, and famous granite kopjes. It is abundant with big cats, including lions, leopards, and cheetahs. During the dry season, the valley’s permanent water sources attract numerous resident and migratory animals, providing excellent game viewing opportunities.
North Serengeti to Central Serengeti
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you can choose to depart for game drives around 8:30 AM with a packed lunch or embark on an early morning game drive at 6:00 AM. Later, return to the accommodation for breakfast and then head to Central Serengeti with a packed lunch. Today, you will travel south towards Central Serengeti. The 4-hour drive to the center offers mild en-route game viewing. The journey south from the Mara River Valley takes you through hill country, the Lobo area, and woodlands, before returning to the Seronera terrain. The central part of the Serengeti, known as the Seronera area, is the park’s richest wildlife habitat. It features the Seronera River, which provides a vital water source and attracts a wide variety of wildlife representative of the Serengeti’s species. As you enter the Seronera, be on the lookout for the many lion prides that thrive in this region. The interaction and survival of these lion prides offer an excellent game viewing experience year-round.
Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater
Serengeti National Park - Distance & Drive time: Traveling from Central Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area takes about 3 to 3.5 hours (153 km/95 mi). After breakfast, enjoy morning game drives in Serengeti National Park. On your way out of the park, you will have additional game viewing opportunities before leaving the Serengeti in the early afternoon to continue your journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for dinner and an overnight stay. You will spend the night at a lodge located on the ridge of the Ngorongoro rim.
Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha / Airport
Ngorongoro Crater - Distance & Drive Time: The journey from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Arusha takes about 3.5 to 4 hours (158 km/98 mi). On the final day of your safari, you will start early. After a quick breakfast, you will descend into the crater floor around 6:30 AM. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. It has a vast floor of about 260 sq km (161 sq mi) with a depth of over 2000 feet. The 6-hour game drive on the crater floor will showcase a lot of animal activity. Keeping your camera ready is advised. The African elephant, buffalo, black rhino, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs, and lions are abundant. After a picnic lunch at the beautiful Ngoito Hippo Pool, you will begin a steep ascent to the top exit of the crater. This marks the final leg of your safari, with a 4-hour drive remaining to your safari’s end. With an incredible experience and countless memories to cherish, this is the moment to bid farewell to your safari crew.
