Kilimanjaro International Airport - Moshi
Kilimanjaro National Park - Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, a representative from Tanzania Dreams will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your reserved lodge for a final briefing about your climb. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at the lodge or exploring the town of Moshi. In the early evening, you will receive a briefing to prepare for your upcoming trek, followed by dinner and an overnight stay. Clients needing to rent climbing equipment will be taken by our driver to a local rental store to acquire any necessary gear.
Moshi – Machame Gate (1,850 m) – Machame Camp (3,010 m)
Kilimanjaro National Park - After breakfast, you will be transported to the entrance gate of Kilimanjaro National Park. While your guide handles the registration forms, take the opportunity to explore the area, read the information boards, and observe the mountain crew preparing for the climb. As you embark on your trekking adventure, you will soon find yourself in the cool rainforest, surrounded by lush green moss and lichen, with tall trees and ferns providing shade. You might spot black and white colobus monkeys curiously watching as you pass by. After about 5 to 6 hours, you will reach Machame Camp, located at 3,010 m, where you will enjoy your evening meal and overnight stay in tents.
Machame Camp (3,010 m) – Shira Camp (3,850 m)
Kilimanjaro National Park - Continue your ascent, leaving the rainforest behind and entering the moorland and heathland. On your way to New Shira Camp (3,850 m), you will be treated to spectacular views of the mountain range. By mid-afternoon, you will reach your destination, where you can admire the sun glistening against the rock face and glacier of Kibo. Dinner and overnight at Shira Camp.
Shira Camp (3,850 m) – Lava Tower (4,600 m) – Barranco Camp (3,950 m)
Kilimanjaro National Park - Today involves a 700 m climb, with your final destination only slightly higher than the previous night. This allows your body to acclimatize to the altitude changes, as you will reach over 3,950 m in the coming days. Your trek begins with an ascent above the Shira Plateau towards the Lava Tower (4,600 m). The surrounding vegetation becomes more sparse as the landscape transitions to an alpine desert. The route extends through the sweeping Barranco Valley, with its lobelia and giant senecio plants, and after approximately 6 to 7 hours, you will arrive at Barranco Camp (3,950 m), the most beautiful camp on the mountain. Dinner and overnight.
Barranco Camp (3,950 m) – Barafu Camp (4,672 m)
Kilimanjaro National Park - Today, you will climb the “Barranco Wall,” requiring a steady hold. Fortunately, a helping hand is always nearby, and your guides will assist as needed. You will traverse the ridge, enjoying wonderful views of Kibo’s south glacier. In the Karanga Valley, you will pause for lunch before embarking on another 2 to 3-hour climb to Barafu Camp (4,672 m). At the camp, you will enjoy a well-deserved break, evening meal, and an early night.
Barafu Camp (4,640 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,080 m)
Kilimanjaro National Park - Around midnight, you will be awakened with hot tea and light snacks before starting your climb to Uhuru Peak. Ascending in the dark, with only a headlamp to guide you, you will climb the screes of Kibo, reaching Stella Point (5,756 m) in about 5 to 7 hours. Walking along the crater ridge, you will finally reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), high above the clouds.
Congratulations, step by step, you have reached Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!
On the “Roof of Africa,” you will enjoy a 360° view of the surrounding landscape before beginning your descent along the same route. Just before midday, you will arrive at Barafu Camp, where you will have a warm meal and relax before continuing to Mweka Camp (3,100 m). Here, you will have your evening meal and sleep with the sights of Mount Kilimanjaro still fresh in your mind.
Mweka Camp (3,100 m) – Mweka Gate (1,850 m) – Moshi
Kilimanjaro National Park - The final day of your journey has arrived, and after breakfast, accompanied by a traditional farewell ceremony, tipping, and bidding farewell to your mountain team, you will gently descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Upon arrival, you will receive summit certificates. Afterwards, your driver will take you to Mweka village for a delicious victory lunch. Then, continue to your booked lodge in Moshi for a hot shower, relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.
Goodbye

- Africa’s highest mountain is a popular but quite challenging trek, made more difficult by the rapid ascent in altitude and a lack of time to acclimatize. Only an estimated 75% of people make it to the top (our success rate is over 90%). To climb Kilimanjaro, there’s no need to be super-fit. This is a trek, not a climb after all, and if you can run for 20-30 minutes once or twice a week, and enjoy an all-day hike at weekends, you should be fine. That said, many people do underestimate Kilimanjaro, its conical shape, leaves little time to acclimatize for heights and, unlike on other treks, if altitude sickness kicks in that’s it. We recommend that you’ll read more about how fit you need to be to climb Kilimanjaro, and how to prepare.
