Nalemuru Gate to Simba Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - The journey begins on this less-traveled wilderness route. The path gradually ascends through a charming forest, home to diverse wildlife. As the forest thins, the first camp is situated at the edge of the moorland zone (2600 m), offering expansive views over the Kenyan plains.

Simba Camp to Rongai Second Cave

Mount Kilimanjaro - The morning trek involves a steady climb to the Second Cave (3,450m), providing stunning views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim. After a hot lunch, there is free time to relax at the camp, or in the afternoon, explore the surrounding area with an acclimatization walk to the Third Cave.

Rongai Second Cave to Kikelelwa Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - The trail gently ascends through beautiful open moorland towards the jagged peaks of Mawenzi, reaching Kikelewa Camp (3679m) by late afternoon at Kikelewa Caves for dinner and an overnight stay.

Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi Turn

Mount Kilimanjaro - A short but steep climb leads to Mawenzi Tarn (4330m). Vegetation is left behind shortly before arriving at the next camp at Mawenzi Tarn. The afternoon is free to aid acclimatization.

Mawenzi Turn hut to Kibo Hut

Mount Kilimanjaro - Today, the route crosses the lunar desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Hut (4700m), reaching the base of the Kibo Crater wall by early afternoon. There is no running water at Kibo Hut. The rest of the day is spent relaxing in preparation for the final ascent, followed by an early night.

Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

Mount Kilimanjaro - The climb begins before midnight under the cover of darkness. A steep ascent over loose volcanic scree, with well-graded zig-zags, leads to the rim of the main crater, Gillman’s Point at 5,685 m. A brief rest is taken to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those feeling strong can continue the three-hour round trip along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m, the highest point in Africa. After a few moments to savor the achievement, the descent to Kibo Hut is remarkably swift, with a stop for refreshments before continuing to Horombo Hut.

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Hotel

Mount Kilimanjaro - The descent continues past Mandara Hut to Marangu Gate, where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. From there, a transfer to Moshi for dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel is arranged. Alternatively, a transfer to JRO for departure is available.
