Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire offer a brief yet authentic African safari experience. Delight in wildlife viewing in the most famous northern Tanzania national parks, rich in flora and fauna. Observe the tree-climbing lions in Lake Manyara and explore the world’s largest crater, the Ngorongoro Crater, which is a natural habitat for the rare black rhino. Conclude with a visit to Tarangire National Park to witness the largest herds of elephants and buffaloes.
DAY 1: ARUSHA TO LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
Depart Arusha at 07:00 am with a picnic lunch en route to Lake Manyara National Park. Travel for approximately 2 hours through the African savannah, characterized by scattered Maasai settlements. Along the way, you may see Maasai people tending to their livestock. Arrive at Lake Manyara in the early morning and proceed with a game drive in various park areas. Lake Manyara’s diverse habitats attract a wide range of animals, including one of Africa’s largest elephant populations, Manyara’s renowned tree-climbing lions, and large flocks of flamingos drawn by the lake’s algae. In the late afternoon, drive to the Manyara area for dinner and overnight at Panorama Camp or a similar location.
DAY 2: FULL DAY SAFARI NGORONGORO CRATER
After breakfast, leave the camp and drive through the lush, evergreen forest of the Ngorongoro highlands towards the Crater. Upon arrival, descend 600m into this stunning crater for a morning, half-day game drive. The crater is home to approximately 30,000 animals, including Tanzania’s remaining black rhinos. Commonly seen animals in Ngorongoro Crater include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. The crater also hosts the largest population of predators, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the elusive leopard, which may require a trained eye to spot. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater before ascending the crater rim for the journey to Tarangire National Park. Dinner and overnight at Panorama Camp.
DAY 3: GAME DRIVE TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, depart for a game viewing session in Tarangire. The park’s vegetation mainly consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with large swamp areas in the south. During the dry season, the swamps shrink, attracting hundreds of animals. This park is home to three rare animal species – the Greater Kudu, the Fringed-eared Oryx, and a few Ashy Starlings. Return to the lodge for lunch, and after lunch, depart for Arusha town.
