Worth it ! - What an amazing deep dive into the little‑known history of the Irish in Montreal, especially the impact of the Irish Famine. Donovan is a fantastic guide — he brings everything to life and shines a light on a heritage that really deserves more recognition. Totally worth doing.

Mass immigration of the Irish in 1847 - Donovan is a passionate guide who knows how to pass on his knowledge. The information provided was super interesting and relevant. The activity display should have indicated that the starting point is not the same as the end point.

An important history movingly told - This was a fascinating tour, revealing a lesser known (but should be known!) history of the Old Port and Lachine Canal. Donovan is an enthusiastic, highly knowledgeable and compelling speaker, and the walk was very satisfying. Wear good walking shoes.

The Black Stone Tour - Excellent guided tour that explains a much lesser known story of Montreal, visiting key sites, including the Black Stone. Very informative, very engaging.

A unique tour of the importance of Irish emigration to 19th century Montreal - A very informative and lively visit along the canal in Griffintown and Bridge-Bonaventure on the arrival of the Irish in 1847 in Montreal, several thousand of whom were decimated by typhus or ship fever. Unpublished fact about the existence of an initial Irish burial site on the site of the former Wellington Basin south of Peel Basin.

Incredible experience, definitely a must if your a history buff like me. - I took a trip back in time yesterday and walked in the footsteps of my grandparents. I'm so honored & privilege to have done this. I got to hear stories my grandmother talked about that I never thought I'd hear again. I'm standing in the hub of what use to be Canada's oldest Irish shanty towns "Griffintown" the town is completely demolished now but behind me would of been Ste Anns Church. Hats off Donovan King for guiding this tour and keeping Irish history & spirit alive. I encourage everyone with Irish roots in this city to do this tour and learn more about the hardships & sacrifice our ancestors had to go through, also the resilience and courage we had 💪☘️💯 #IRISHSTRONG #irishfamine #montreal #griffintown

A Powerful and Insightful Tour with One Key Drawback - Donavan is an excellent tour guide: passionate, informative, and clear, with a very real depth of historical knowledge. He walked us through the events of the Irish Famine, what led to it, and how people were received on these shores, before expanding on the Irish experience in Griffintown. It was genuinely fascinating and thoughtfully presented. I would highly recommend the tour. The only downside was the logistics. The tour ended up running closer to 2.5 hours rather than the advertised 2, and it finished at the Black Rock, which is quite far from the starting point. This left us with about a 30-minute walk back on our own through a fairly isolated area that didn’t feel particularly safe. I also ended up being an hour late getting back to my parked car, which I had paid for. It would have made a big difference to know this in advance so I could plan accordingly, especially as I was coming from outside the city. Setting clearer expectations at the beginning—both about the duration and the end location—would really improve the experience. It might also be worth streamlining a few stops to allow more time at the Black Rock itself, particularly to better access and reflect on the full grave site.
