• Plaza Independencia 1370 - The creation of Plaza Independencia on the site of the old Citadel was a vision realized by architect Carlo Zucchi in 1837, as part of a plan to expand the colonial city. The plaza is adorned with 33 palm trees, honoring the Thirty-Three Orientals who took part in the Liberation Crusade. From the Plaza, one can admire the Palacio Salvo, the Solis Theater, the Executive Tower, the Estevez Palace, and the historic Puerta de la Ciudadela.
• Palacio Legislativo - The Legislative Palace serves as the seat of Uruguay’s Legislative Power. It houses the General Assembly, which consists of two chambers that convene separately or together as needed: the House of Representatives and the House of Senators. The building was designed by Italian architect Gaetano Moretti, with assistance from Uruguayan architect Eugenio Baroffio.
• Mercado Agrícola Montevideo - MAM - The Mercado Agrícola de Montevideo is one of the largest agricultural markets in the city. In 2006, ownership transferred to the Montevideo City Council, which initiated a reconstruction project that also revitalized the surrounding area, promoting urban renewal and neighborhood repopulation.
• La Carreta - This work is inspired by gauchos, rural life, and the traditional cargo transport methods before the advent of automobiles and railroads.
• Estadio Centenario - The Centenario Stadium is a historic soccer venue that hosted the first World Cup.
• Playa Pocitos - A stop for panoramic photos of the Montevideo sign with a view of Pocitos beach.
• Sofitel Montevideo Casino - The neighborhood has become the city’s most luxurious residential area, home to much of the upper class. Pierre Durandeau planted thousands of trees in the north, creating the current Rivera Park. Carrasco expanded into the exclusive Miramar area, where a large hotel, now the Naval School, once operated, and to the north into popular and industrial neighborhoods like Carrasco Norte and Paso Carrasco. La Rambla de Montevideo finds one of its most picturesque expressions in Carrasco. The Hotel Carrasco was renovated and is now managed by the French hotel chain Sofitel.
• Mercado del Puerto - At the end of the tour at Sofitel Montevideo Carrasco, visitors can choose to return to the hotel or stay at the Port Market (return independently).
