A private tour with a seasoned guide is the best way to make the most of your time in Monteverde at either the Monteverde Reserve or Curi Cancha Reserve. This option is great for anyone who would like a more personal touch than a standard group tour. Also great for families with children! Unlike many operators that charge per person, we offer a flat rate for your private guide for 1-4 people and for 5-8 people. This tour doesn’t include transport, but we have a customization of this tour that includes round trip transport. We look forward to hosting you!
- This tour runs rain or shine (except in a strong thunder storm or very strong winds). Please dress appropriately with long pants and closed toed shoes (no flip flops or loose sandals). Also, layers recommended!
- Wheelchair accessible only on limited part of Treetopia bridges and at Aguti Reserve.
- Non-strenuous, mostly flat walk

Amazing ride! - Incredible trick thanks to Derniert!
Our guide is a well of knowledge that has taught us a lot while raising awareness on important topics that are more topical.
We saw a lot of animals, mammals like birds and insects, but also a lot of plants.

Natural History Walk in Monteverde - Marcos took us on an early morning walk to look for even more birds in Monteverde. It was exciting both birds and mammals native to Costa Rica. We set our sights on finding keel-billed toucans, but also saw agouti, coati, hummingbirds, crested guans, straggler figs green toucans, blue morpho butterflies and much more! His ability to recognize and mimic bird calls was impressive. Marcos shared his vast knowledge of all things native to Costa Rica.

An unforgettable experience with the best guide - We were lucky enough to tour Monteverde with Marcos and couldn't have asked for a better guide. We are fond of birds and Marcos was simply exceptional: close, friendly and with an impressive knowledge about the birdlife of the area. His passion for nature is evident in every explanation and that made the whole group even more connected to what we were seeing. Thank you very much, Marcos, for making our visit to Monteverde so special. 100% recommended!

Magical walking tour in the Monteverde Cloud Forest - Pasion Costa Rica served our retreat community in several ways. Susu was our logistics coordinator for the week, overseeing our comings and goings with the retreat leader, and the staff of Valle Escondido, the marvelous hotel where we stayed. She met us at the airport, answered numerous questions, and provided us with tour choices for our open day, with both Pasion Costa Rica and other local enterprises. Susu was consistently kind, knowledgeable, and helpful.
My husband and I went on the Morning Cloud Forest Natural History Walk. Led by expert naturalist Felix, we learned about the ecosystem of the cloud forest, saw the famous strangler fig (ficus) tree, sited howler monkeys and coatis, learned several of the local bird calls, and were able to see a green viper snake though Felix's scope. It was a wonderful experience!
If we are able to return to this magical country, our first connection will be with Susu, Marcos and Felix. I highly recommend Pasion Costa Rica.

Must do in Monteverde - We had a wonderful time with our guide Marcos exploring the Curi-Cancha Reserves. We learned so much from him about the wildlife and geography in Costa Rica and specifically in Monteverde. Marcos passion for what he does is so apparent and he made the experience very special. Would highly recommend doing this private tour with Marcos and definitely in Curi-Cancha. The reserve wasn’t crowded, we got to see quite a bit of wildlife, and it was a beautiful park to explore!

A wonderful experience for the whole family - We did a night tour and a private natural history walk with Pasión, and we were so glad that we did. Marcos could not have been nicer, and made the experience so engaging and interesting for the whole family. He brought his daughter Emma along, who was such a lovely young lady and my 8 year old really enjoyed having another young person to share the experience with. We went at the start of holy week and Monteverde was really busy, but Marcos took us away from the crowds to quieter paths where we were able to go at our own pace and really enjoy the peace of the cloud forest. We were lucky enough to see a quetzal, which was a nice surprise, as well as lots of other beautiful birds and insects. Marcos was extremely knowledgeable and you can see that he has such genuine enthusiasm for his work. I would highly recommend him if you are wanting to do a tour in Monteverde, particularly if you're going with children.

Marcos Cloud Forest Hike - We started our Costa Rica experience with Marcos on the Cloud Forest Hike in Mondeverde. Wow what a great start! Marcos is a conservationist, a wonderful guide and lots of fun. He represents Costa Rica perfectly. Our hike was educational and great fun. He explained many aspects about the forest, birds and the eco system. There was also a reference to Tarzan climbing in the forest when Marcos was a boy. It was a magical tour and we saw the elusive Ketsal. Thank you Marcos for an awesome hike and lovely introduction to Costa Rica. Doug and Jacqui

A very beautiful way to spend a few hours - The tour was great, our tour guide Olga was absolutely amazing and made our day. I’m a bit handicapped and have issues walking and keeping up. He couldn’t do enough to be helpful.
The meeting place was a bit confusing at best but the tour company txt me and made certain we connected with our guide.
This tour is exactly as promised it is a nature tour NOT really about wildlife but it is beautiful and a fairly easy walk.
Not much going on in Monteverdi but a fun few hours of nature at its best.

Disappointed - We were drawn to Pasion Monteverde by the many glowing reviews and were genuinely excited about our private Monteverde Cloud Forest nature tour. We expected one of the company’s own expert guides to lead the experience, but were instead assigned a backup guide, Daniel, with the assurance that the quality would remain the same.
Unfortunately, the tour didn’t live up to that promise. While we did see a few birds, the overall experience felt lackluster. Daniel seemed disengaged, and much of his commentary indicated he was more familiar with Curi Cancha than the Cloud Forest. His lack of enthusiasm made the exploration feel more like a walk than a guided nature experience.
What was most disappointing, though, was that the company charged a premium for a private tour under their brand name, while outsourcing the experience to a guide who didn’t seem to be part of their core team. This led to a disjointed and impersonal tour—one that didn’t reflect the quality or passion we had read about.
We truly hope the company reconsiders this approach, as it compromises the guest experience and leaves a lasting sense of disappointment.
