• Lucea - Founded on November 12, 1723, Hanover is Jamaica’s second smallest parish, with Lucea as its capital. In the mid-18th century, Hanover’s farmers supplied much of Jamaica’s produce, primarily exporting bananas and logwood for dyes.

Fort Charlotte in Lucea, built in 1761, is accompanied by The Barracks, a remarkable Georgian brick structure constructed in 1843 to house soldiers. In the early 20th century, The Barracks became an educational hub and is now part of the Rusea’s High School complex. In 1982, Rusea’s High School merged with Hanover Secondary School and continues to operate as Rusea’s High School (Fort Charlotte). As of January 2019, the school remains open, with open-air lessons held within the fort.
