• St James Parish Church - Plan for a 30-minute visit to this historic Anglican Church, established in 1775, making it one of the oldest in the Montego Bay region. The church features stunning architecture and houses artifacts dating back over 200 years. Built to endure through the ages, it remains fully operational as it was at its inception. Visitors are encouraged to read the marble plaques and headstones, which showcase exquisite poems and well-wishes written in Old English. Feel free to explore and read the headstones. Contributions are welcome at your discretion.
• Sam Sharpe Square - This tour takes you to the heart of downtown Montego Bay, with an initial 10-minute stop at Sam Sharpe Square. Named after a freed slave who led a significant uprising in Jamaica on Christmas Day in 1831, the square features a statue of Sam Sharpe and other slaves who faced severe punishment in 1832 for their involvement in the uprising. Visitors are welcome to exit the vehicle and explore the area. Additionally, “The Cage,” originally built from wood in 1806 and later reconstructed with bricks, served as a holding area for runaway slaves until they were returned to their plantations. It also detained vagrants and unruly seamen who became disorderly after drinking.
