R 62 in the Klein Karoo - Departing from Cape Town, the journey begins on the R62 Wine Route, renowned as the longest Wine Route globally. The Klein Karoo Wine Route in the Southern Cape is considered one of South Africa’s most diverse wine regions. It is the easternmost wine-producing area in the country, extending along Cape Route 62 from Montagu in the west to the Langkloof in the east. This route includes the towns of Montagu, Barrydale, Ladismith, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn, and De Rust. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop for wine tastings at various wine farms.
Knysna - The journey continues to Knysna, where the base will be set. Knysna is a top holiday destination in the Garden Route, South Africa, offering a plethora of activities and sights. Families can create lasting memories, adventure enthusiasts can enjoy thrilling outdoor experiences, and those seeking luxury will find exclusive activities. Discover sandy beaches, forest trails, and the rich cultural heritage that make Knysna a must-visit location in the Western Cape. Knysna will serve as the base for exploring other centers.
Depart after breakfast and head to Addo Elephant National Park, the 3rd largest game reserve in South Africa
Addo Elephant National Park - This renowned South African game reserve is famous for its large elephant herds that graze peacefully on the vegetation. At Addo Elephant National Park, visitors can witness these magnificent creatures by visiting one of the waterholes, a popular spot for elephants. The game reserve is also known for offering sightings of the Big 5.
Bloukrans Bridge - At Bloukrans Bridge, adventurers can experience the world’s highest bungy jump at 216m. There is also an opportunity to enjoy a sky walk, with an optional fee of $20.00 for the experience.
Depart from Knysna after breakfast and head to Robberg Nature Reserve, Plettenberg Bay & back to Knysna Heads
Robberg Nature Reserve - Enjoy hiking at Robberg Nature Reserve, one of South Africa’s most stunning nature reserves. Highlights include spotting the rare blue duiker, the Western Cape’s smallest antelope; walking alongside one of the seven climbing-falling dunes on the Cape coastline; and viewing the highest navigational light on the South African coastline at the Cape Seal Lighthouse (146m above sea level). The reserve extends 1.8km offshore, protecting a variety of vulnerable fish species.
Plettenberg Bay - Plettenberg Bay, or Plett, is a charming coastal resort in South Africa’s Western Cape. It serves as an excellent stop along the Garden Route for those seeking proximity to the beach. The area boasts some of the finest beaches, and a visit to one of these famous beaches is planned.
Knysna Heads - From Plett, the journey returns to Knysna for a tour of Knysna Heads. The Heads are a natural wonder in Knysna, where the Atlantic Ocean showcases its power. From the top, there is a breathtaking view of the ocean and lagoon, a must-see sight! The Heads also feature beaches where visitors can enjoy the sound of the waves.
The Waterfront Knysna Quays - After visiting Knysna Heads, the next stop is Quays Knysna Waterfront, a perfect place to unwind. This popular spot offers a variety of restaurants and shopping opportunities.
On day 4, depart from Knysna after breakfast and head to Hermanus, then to Benguela Wine Estate, to Betty’s Bay & Cape
Hermanus - A tour of Hermanus is planned. Hermanus is a seaside town southeast of Cape Town, in South Africa’s Western Cape Province, known for whale-watching. Beaches include Voëlklip Beach and the expansive Grotto Beach, overlooking Walker Bay. The Old Harbour Museum encompasses the old harbour, a fishermen’s village, and the Whale House Museum.
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate - Wine tasting at Benguela Wine Estate is on the agenda, featuring five of the best wines. Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate is a low-yield farm focused on producing premium estate wines. There are numerous attractions for guests of all ages to enjoy.
Betty’s Bay - From Benguela Wine Estate, the journey continues to see the endangered African Penguins in Betty’s Bay. This is the final stop before returning to Cape Town.
BETTY’S BAY - The Stony Point land-based penguin colony, managed by CapeNature, is the third-largest breeding colony of African Penguins globally and has shown a measurable increase in breeding pairs. A thoughtfully constructed boardwalk allows visitors to explore the reserve and observe the penguins in their natural habitat closely.
