  The original Tudor Hampton Court Palace was initiated by Cardinal Wolsey in the early 16th century, but soon caught the eye of Henry VIII, who brought all six of his wives here. Encircled by stunning gardens and renowned features like the Maze and the Great Vine, the palace has hosted numerous nationally significant events.

When William III and Mary II (1689-1702) ascended the throne in 1689, they enlisted Sir Christopher Wren to construct a sophisticated new baroque palace. Subsequently, Georgian kings and princes inhabited the magnificent interiors. After the royals departed in 1737, destitute ‘grace and favour’ aristocrats took residence.

Queen Victoria opened the palace to the public in 1838. It has since remained a draw for millions of visitors, captivated by its grandeur, ghosts, and the remarkable art collection.
