Rest assured, at Grand Bassin, you will find the Hindu God Lord Shiva, smiling and as serene as ever. The statue stands 33 meters tall and is the tallest known statue in Mauritius. Fed by the waters of three distinct streams flowing into the Saint-Denis River, it boasts a powerful rush with a peak flow rate exceeding 40,000 m³ per minute. The St. Denis rivers flow through fields, gorges, and green spaces towards the sea, creating a splendid view. Cascading over the edge of a basalt cliff, the Chamarel Waterfall plunges into an oval pool before flowing down a 6km tropical-forest-fringed canyon to Baie du Cap. Tourists can choose to view the waterfalls from the upper deck at the Chamarel Seven Colored Earth or from below. The Chamarel Falls are undoubtedly the most famous and recognized waterfalls in Mauritius and have always been a major attraction for tourists.
