Entertaining, tasty cacao tour with a warm hearted grower - I am a professor of horticulture and I was very impressed with Rafael's knowledge of cacao production at his beautiful farm. He talked about his triumphs and failures with good humor and warmth. I, along with my 10 student group, really enjoyed tasting all his different types of chocolate as well as tasting the material around the raw beans. I would highly recommend this tour.

Cacao farm : field science and learning - This tour of a small cacao plantation is one of the best tours I’ve ever taken. Rafael, guide and farm owner, knows how to make his journey to become a successful cacao farmer deeply compelling. His learning about his land, how site-specific cacao growing is is quite an epic tale of learning, testing, observing, measuring, celebrating. He’s a great communicator, very open and able to answer all manner of questions. His farm is in the Puerto Rican highlands, beautiful and steep. The chocolate tasting at the end was profoundly appreciated in the light of the knowledge of ALL that goes into chocolate!

Bringing it all together - I have been learning about bean to bar chocolate for about 7 years now. I have done workshops and attended the Seattle Chocolate festival for the last 12 years and I am now part of a Chocolate explorers club. This was the piece that closed the loop for me. I have seen most of this on videos and talked about a lot of what goes on in workshops but I had never seen it in real time or in real life if you will. This it was a great tour. I was able to understand the work behind just getting the trees to produce the fruit. The challenges of making it sustainable and then taste the product of all the hard work. The fee was well worth the experience I would have paid more for the experience but instead I bought a lot of chocolate, including some Coco bean husks for tea. "Amazing" The Length of the tour was perfect. I think it was about 2 hours long. We walked the farm and then received an explanation about how they made the Chocolate. Everyone was very thoughtful and willing to answer any questions the first part of the walk was not in the shade and was on a hill and uneven paths so make sure you heed all the instruction about closed toe shoes. The last part was in the shade an very comfortable and then we got a ride back up the hill which was a relief because it was a long way back up the hill in the middle of the day. We were lucky we went on the English speaking tour so we had our own private tour. Not sure that is always the case but it was nice. The family was wonderful and very informative, the best part for me was leaning from the family how it all worked for them and how exciting but hard it was to do all of the things. Hope to see them all in the future.

Magnificent cacao tour - The cacao tour was magnificent. It’s a family business that gives a wonderful presentation and cacao tasting. I went with my family, which included kids from 5 to 18 years old and adults up to 70. The walk is not difficult, and the guides kindly explained everything to adults in Spanish and to the kids in English. I definitely recommend the tour.
