spectacular - The Castillo de Gibralfaro is one of the most iconic symbols of Málaga and a must for those visiting the city. Built in the fourteenth century by the Muslims of the Nasrid dynasty, it had the function of protecting the Alcazaba and controlling the port, thanks to its strategic position on a hill overlooking the city. Today it offers spectacular 360-degree views of the old town and the sea, perfect for photographs or simple moments of contemplation. The fortified walls, watchtowers and ramparts tell a story of defense and power, while walking along the walkways allows you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of an ancient military rampart. The Castillo de Gibralfaro fascinates both those who love history and those seeking breathtaking views of the city of Malaga. Online on the official website you can find combo tickets for 10 euros including the Alcazaba. Attention there are many uphill steps to do, otherwise there is an elevator to climb for those with mobility problems.

10 out of 5 points - Great! - Rodrigo took a lot of time and was extremely patient with us. He let us all practice alone first and then we went up Gibralfaro together. That was very nice and he also explained a lot to us. Can only recommend absolutely, was super fun for everyone. Best guide!

Best way to do it - Easy up the hill, look silly, but felt cool zooming by all the people walking up the massive hill. Great fun

It’s climbing! - Put on good shoes and stock up on water, it’s climbing. A bit of a steep climb if you're not used to it, but once you get to the top, the view is nice.

Ready, Set? CLIMB! - So for those who want to waste time climbing a hill on foot to see yet another fortress half destroyed and reconstituted in the 1990s: go for it! For the others (don't be fooled!), you can get there by car! Visit without much interest other than a view of the city of Malaga…. Yeah….better to get lost in the Alcazaba below, a more informative visit with soothing gardens.

Malaga castle scam - Beware. There is a gang operating in the gardens below the castle. They squirted what a bystander said was bird droppings onto my back. He tried to lure me into a remote part of the garden where he said there was water. When I didn’t go he “helpfully” tried to wipe it off with a tissue while trying to remove my wallet. I caught him doing it. Reported to police and they said it happens a lot.
