Located in the peripheries of Charters Towers lies the oldest and largest surviving Battery in Queensland – the Venus Gold Battery. Since its establishment in 1872, this pulverizing mill, with its monstrous “stampers,” operated relentlessly, day and night, to reap the costly gold from quartz until 1973.
