- Fiordland National Park (Te Wahipounamu) - Located in the southwest of New Zealand’s South Island, Fiordland National Park is renowned for the glacier-carved fiords of Doubtful and Milford Sounds. A beech forest trail along the sandy Milford shore provides stunning views of the majestic Mitre Peak.
- Milford Sound - Regardless of the weather, our newly renovated vessels offer unparalleled views through full-height viewing windows. Take advantage of our 360º decks, ideal for capturing that perfect photo.
Our enthusiastic skippers provide engaging and informative commentary, making this the ideal cruise for solo travelers, couples, and families, with ample space to enjoy the scenery.
- Bowen Falls - The breathtaking Lady Bowen Falls is Milford’s tallest waterfall, cascading 162m from a hanging valley into the head of Milford Sound. It supplies electricity to the Milford Sound township through a small hydroelectric scheme and serves as the settlement’s water source.
- Mitre Peak - Mitre Peak is a stunningly dramatic mountain on New Zealand’s South Island, situated on the shore of Milford Sound. It is among the most photographed peaks in the country.
- Sinbad Gully - Tucked behind the renowned Mitre Peak, Sinbad Gully is distinguished by its steep, glacially carved walls and nearly vertical granite cliffs. These natural barriers have slowed pest invasion, allowing unique native species to thrive.
Southern Discoveries is dedicated to preserving the beauty of Milford Sound for future generations, which is why it is a key partner in the Sinbad Sanctuary Project, a major conservation initiative.
The goal is to transform the valley of New Zealand’s most photographed mountain (Sinbad Gully is at the base of Mitre Peak) into a sanctuary for native species.
- Stirling Falls - Stirling Falls, Milford’s second-highest waterfall, stands at an impressive 151m – three times the height of Niagara Falls, though the 1,300m mountain behind it diminishes this remarkable height. This is the famous waterfall that Hugh Jackman ‘jumped off’ in the movie Wolverine. The sheer drop of Stirling Falls allows boats to venture right underneath, offering an exhilarating experience as 151m of glacial water cascades nearby.
