To access the church, visitors must ascend 150 steps, passing by 12th-century sculptures from the Porta dello Zodiaco, a magnificent Romanesque doorway adorned with zodiac signs. Inside, the left side features 16th-century frescoes illustrating New Testament themes, while the right side showcases depictions of the church’s founding. Please note that some parts of the abbey are only open on weekends, and during busy times, visits may be restricted to hour-long tours. Weather permitting, the views from the surrounding walls and terraces are stunning. If there is snow, access to the Sacra di San Michele is not possible, and the tour guide will recommend an alternative itinerary.
