- Pompeii Archaeological Park - At the time of the catastrophic eruption, Pompeii had approximately 11,000 residents, while Herculaneum was home to around 5,000 people. Many emperors and aristocrats owned holiday villas in these cities. In 79 AD, the entire area was buried under several meters of ash within a few hours. Centuries later, in 1748, during the Bourbon rule, excavation efforts began. The discovery was met with great excitement as it enriched the kingdom and inspired the neoclassical movement in Europe. Today, the ruins of Pompeii are among the most visited archaeological sites globally, while Herculaneum is renowned for its Villa dei Papiri, which houses a library of over 1,800 papyri. The tour of the excavations lasts approximately 2 hours, and if time allows, a visit to a coral and cameo factory can be arranged to observe the skilled artisans at work.

This comprehensive day tour of the World Heritage Sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum starts with a pick-up in Naples, followed by a bus transfer to the Pompeii ruins. A tour assistant will accompany you on the bus during this segment of the journey.
Upon arrival in Pompeii, participants will explore the ruins for approximately 2 hours. Discover the customs and everyday life of ancient Pompeii’s residents. Highlights include the grand theater, the necropolis, the thermal baths, and some of the impressive homes once owned by the wealthiest citizens. A light lunch at a local restaurant is included.
After lunch, proceed to Herculaneum, where you will have the opportunity to explore the ruins independently. The daily life of the inhabitants is even more vividly preserved here than in Pompeii, as the mud and volcanic debris that covered the city have kept the structures and artifacts of Herculaneum remarkably intact.
- If there are fewer than six people in your group, the tour will operate with an audio guide instead of a real local guide.
- Not suitable for passengers with walking difficulties
