After being picked up from the hotel, the journey will take you to approximately 1900 meters above sea level at Rifugio Sapienza on the southern side of Etna. Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe, stands as a true symbol of Sicily. This is an opportunity to ascend either 1,900 or 2,900 meters above sea level to explore the moon-like terrain of the volcano’s craters. Transportation is provided from Taormina to Rifugio Sapienza, where – if the 2,900-meter option is selected – a cable car and 4x4 vehicle will take visitors to the main crater for a guided tour and breathtaking views. For those who choose to remain at 1,900 meters, there is ample time to wander the nature trails around the Silvestri Craters, as well as visit souvenir shops, cafés, and a small museum that narrates the mountain’s history. Regardless of the choice, a camera is essential for capturing the experience.
