Mount Meru - Following an early breakfast in Arusha (1400m), guests will be collected from their hotel and transported to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. During this time, porters will organize and pack the gear for the trek while the guide registers with the Tanzania National Park (TANAPA). The ascent in Arusha National Park then begins. The first day of hiking resembles a walking safari, with opportunities to see giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and possibly elephants along the trail. Due to the likelihood of encountering wildlife, an armed ranger, hired through the National Park, will accompany the team throughout the hike. As the hike progresses, trekkers will pass the Ngarenanyuki River and a stunning waterfall at the base of Mt. Meru. Upon reaching Miriakamba Hut (2500m), a chef will prepare a hot dinner and provide washing water. Enjoy the beautiful sunset and overnight stay.

Mount Meru, located to the eastern side of the Great Rift Valley and approximately 40 km southwest of Kilimanjaro, in the northern section of Tanzania’s Arusha National Park, is acknowledged as an active volcano. It takes the place of Tanzania’s second tallest mountain and is also recognised as the fourth tallest mountain in Africa by some (succeeding Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya, and the Rwenzoris - also known as the Mountains of the Moon). Over 500,000 years back, Mount Meru underwent a massive eruption that transformed its cone shape and led to a horseshoe-shaped crater with the eastern side gone. The remodeled mountain holds its peak on the western side with its inner cliffs towering more than 1,500m from the crater’s base, classifying them as some of Africa’s highest cliffs. In the previous 100 years, there have been records of eruptions as the Ash Cone keeps forming within the crater.
