Sailing the Istrian Coast: A Day of Sun, Sea, and Adventure
When I heard about the Medulin Boat Tour, I knew it was a must-experience adventure. With promises of stunning coastlines, underwater caves, and a private island, I couldn’t resist the call of the sea.
Setting Sail from Medulin
The sun was just beginning to cast its golden glow over the Medulin harbor as I boarded the boat for a day of adventure along Istria’s stunning coastline. The anticipation was palpable, and the welcome drink in hand set the tone for a day of relaxation and exploration. As we set off, the panoramic views of Medulin’s archipelago unfolded before us, each island a green gem in the azure sea.
Our guide for the day, Ricardo, was a charismatic soul with a fascinating backstory. Originally from Peru, he had spent time in Wales, and his stories of life in Merthyr Tydfil resonated with the Welsh travelers on board. His ability to switch effortlessly between languages made everyone feel at home, and his humor kept us all entertained as we cruised towards our first destination.
Diving into Adventure
The boat ride to Kamenjak National Park was a breezy 50 minutes, with the wind in our hair and the promise of adventure ahead. Upon arrival, the cliffs and underwater caves beckoned, and I couldn’t resist the call of the sea. Diving into the crystal-clear waters, I swam towards the Golumbera cave, guided by Ricardo and his team. The experience of swimming through the cave was exhilarating, the water cool and refreshing against the summer heat.
Back on the boat, we continued our journey around the historic Porer lighthouse. Built in 1846, its storied past was brought to life by Ricardo’s engaging tales. As we cruised along, lunch was served on board—a delightful spread with options for everyone, from fresh fish to vegetarian delights. It was the perfect way to refuel before our next stop.
Island Bliss on Ceja
Our final destination was the private island of Ceja, a slice of paradise where time seemed to stand still. With two hours to explore, I found myself torn between lounging on the sun-drenched beach and snorkeling in the transparent waters. The island’s charm was undeniable, with its ‘Instagram-worthy’ bar and the occasional rabbit sighting adding to its allure.
As the day drew to a close, we reluctantly made our way back to Medulin, the memories of the day’s adventures etched in our minds. The Medulin Boat Tour was more than just a journey along the coast; it was a celebration of nature, culture, and camaraderie. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a first-time explorer, this tour is a must-do for anyone visiting Istria. And to Ricardo, good luck with your restaurant venture—wherever it may be!
