Local Fruit Knowhow - It's me again. Yes, the city tour was so good (see my other review) that I just came back to the same company and was very happy to find my dear German whom I had done the city center tour with.
The exotic fruit tour is exactly what it says. You get to taste many fruits, but you can't always control whether the fruits will be great on your tour, so go there with an open and adventurous mind. My group was lucky and we got to taste nearly 20 fruits ranging from totally new and delicious tastes to tasteless but funny textures.
For those who wonder why you do not visit the great market (mayorista), the reason is that the smaller one (minorista) is more pleasant to walk in.
The area around it is a bit sketchy and as the agency recommends it well, I also emphasize that it is advised to go there by car.
If you want a funny experience full of anecdotes and local knowhow on how to choose and eat fruits, this is your next fruity destination (beware the effects of the malicious Chontaduro).

Fun afternoon activity - unique and tasty! - Loved this tour! Would have been very overwhelmed by the market on my own and not know what fruits to try - this really helped break it down and show us fruits we wouldn't have known. Answered any and all questions - very knowledgable.

Great Fruit Tour - We had an absolutely amazing time with the Food Tour, Diana was GREAT! We sampled many different variety of fruits that are local to Medellin. Diana was very knowledgeable about the market and the fruits there. Diana made the tour with her energy! Diana was also very helpful when we decided we wanted to purchase some of the fruit, she helped us picked the best ones. The rest of our trip, when we ate at the hotel, we would tell the rest of our family about the fruits that the hotel was serving. We would absolutely do this tour again.

Exotic Fruit Tour - My friend recommended the exotic fruit tour with Real City Tours so we reserved it on their website about a week ahead. The instructions to meet the tour guide were clear. We had some questions before the tour and we were able to chat with the company through whatsapp, which was helpful. Since we booked on the site, we paid part of it online and the rest in person plus tip.
We met our guide Diana and spent the next few hours in the market with a small group. Since we went on a weekday morning, the market wasn't as crowded which was nice - it tends to be much busier on the weekend. We tried many types of fruit, most of which were new to us since we're from NYC. Diana was an amazing, helpful guide. With each fruit, she explained what it was, how it tasted, how to tell when it was ripe, how locals preferred to eat it, and offered for us to smell and touch each fruit. There were picture cards with names of each fruit, for us to take pictures (so we know what we are taking pictures of). In the middle of the tour, we had some time on our own to explore the market, which is massive and has much more than just fruit. When the tour ended, we sat down with the group upstairs and ordered a fruit juice of our choice. That was so fun and our group got a mix of juices we loved and ones we wanted to try, like jugo de borojo! We appreciated the time to talk with the group and hear about everyone's travels. We even got some more recommendations (thanks Diana) for things to do in Medellin. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Medellin.

Yes, you should visit the market with a guide (and it's worth it) - If you’re like me and thinking « why would I book a tour to walk around a food market, I can just do that myself », this review is for you!
I’m the type of traveler who likes exploring on my own. But this tour is truly an exception and was 100% worth it. Because, unless you think you will actually bring a knife and spoon to the market, walk up to fruit vendors, ask them to buy the most random-looking fruits, and figure out which to choose + how to eat them, chances are you're better off with someone who actually knows what they're doing.
Diana was an amazing guide: in addition to being funny and sweet, she helped us navigate the maze of the market, selected the best fruits just for us, shared a ton of fun facts and tips for choosing your fruits, and made the whole experience so smooth and fun despite the light chaos of the market. The fruits were incredible, of course. I highly recommend doing this if you are visiting Medellín!
