Amazing Cacao Tour - From the moment Sara picked us up she was a fountain of knowledge and gave us so much information about Colombian society and culture on the journey. Her English is immaculate. The tour itself was brilliant, the family are friendly and full of smiles. We picked 3 different types of cacao, then separated out the seeds, fermented them, then roasted some pre-fermented seeds, and peeled them, then you grind it and make your own chocolate. We bought lots of bars to take away too as they were so delicious. All in all an unforgettable tour, with Sara’s amazing driving a bonus! Would recommend 100%!!

Such an incredible experience! - This is such a wonderful tour. Yuly is a fantastic guide. She was so informative, both about the Cacao farm but also the region as a whole. We had so much fun learning about the process and the hands on aspect was really special. The small format of both the farm and the tour were everything we could hope for. We couldn't recommend this tour highly enough!

A true bean to bar experience 🍫 - Picked up in El Poblado by our charismatic guide Laura from @medellindaytrips we journeyed into the Aburrá Valley foothills of Barbosa for a private cacao experience at the family-run farm @cacaoprimaveral where they grow mostly Trinitario cacao, with local hybrids and Criollo influence. This farm sits at 1,450 meters, so cacao is planted at the lowest part of the land, with coffee growing higher up. The venture and farm experiences are built and shared by Sandra who is the driving force behind the project. During the tour, led by both Laura and Sandra, we spotted many cacao trees bearing dark red and green pods as all surrounded by lush green surroundings, stunning and exotic flowers and pink bananas, we tasted the delicious sweet and sour pulp, and saw the area where the cacao beans are dried. We roasted the beans, peeled them, ground them with sugar, and made cacao ourselves — which was really cool. We finished the tour making our own chocolate bars, and enjoyed the typical Colombian buñuelos — golden fried cheese fritters dipped in hot chocolate. We left with a couple of their organic cacao bars and chocolates, and a much deeper appreciation for the bean-to-bar process. Not all “chocolate” starts with cacao — many bars lead with sugar. From tree to bar, at Cacao Primaveral, the bean always comes first and represents a unique flavor: soft and expressive, with notes of honey, panela, toasted nuts, gentle citrus, florals, and a creamy finish. This 🍫 totally made our day. Muchas gracias para todos 🙏🏼.

Cocoa Farm Private Tour - I went on a lot of tours in Colombia, but Erica was the number one guide I ever had. Most importantly, the kids had a really good day. In addition to making chocolate, it was a refreshing experience to take and eat farm fruits and see rare plants and trees. It's not far from the center of Medellín, and that was a good point.

A Sweet Afternoon - What a fun afternoon with Sandra, our chocolate farm host, and Alejandro, our driver/ guide. They were so accommodating, informative , and personable. We were personally involved in the entire process of chocolate making from picking the cacao all the way to making our own chocolate bar. It was exciting to see tourism having a positive impact on a local family. It was like spending an afternoon with friends.

Fantastic Coffee and Chocolate tours! - We did both the coffee and chocolate tours and absolutely loved them! Alejandro led our coffee tour and Erika guided us through the chocolate experience — both were incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging throughout. You can really tell they’re passionate about what they do and love sharing it with visitors. We learned so much, had a lot of fun, and left with a new appreciation for Colombia’s amazing coffee and chocolate. Would 100% recommend both tours, and especially Alejandro and Erika, to anyone visiting!

🌿 An Unforgettable Cacao Farm Tour with Erika—Insightful, Heartfelt, and Rich in Colombian Culture - We booked a Cacao Farm Tour with Medellin Day Trips and had Erika pick us up from our hotel in El Poblado with a flexible schedule to our preferences. Erika spent the time on the journey to the farm sharing her personal experiences and deep knowledge about Medellín, Colombia generally, and the history of farming and conflict in the country. We felt incredibly privileged to share the journey and listen to Erika, and grateful for how open and honest she was about her country, especially in answering our many questions. The Cacao Farm itself was a small holding over an hour away from Medellin. The site was run by a very welcoming family and their daughter, who took us around the site to see the different cacao plants, and then took us through each state of the production process to learn how the finished product is made using traditional methods. The family treated us to some local bread snacks and hot chocolate whilst we waited for our finished product to set. On the tour, Erika was able to help with translating our questions to the host family, whilst also adding additional insights based on the personal knowledge she has accumulated herself. On the return journey back to Medellin, Erika was able to drop us to a location of our choosing, and continued to provide recommendations and valuable insights to inform the rest of our time in the city. We had an incredibly memorable time overall and would highly recommend the tour itself. The farm owners were incredibly welcoming and Erika was fantastic and so knowledgeable. We really enjoyed learning so much about your country and felt humbled to spend the time with you all ❤️

Chocolate Farm in the Andes - What a fantastic experience! The farm itself is beautiful and learning the journey from cacao pod to chocolate bar was fascinating. But the real highlight was our guide, Laura. She was warm, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. The tastings were delicious (who knew chocolate could taste so different at each stage?) and Laura made the whole process come alive. If you’re visiting Medellín, don’t miss this tour and definitely ask for Laura.

Amazing day! - Our tour with Erika was absolutely amazing! She took us on a wonderful adventure to a chocolate farm where we got to learn, taste, and experience so much local flavor. After that, she guided us on an unforgettable climb up the rock in Guatapé. Erika was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole day feel fun and seamless. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide—thank you, Erika, for making this such a memorable experience!
