Ranchero - My driver, Juan, was fluent in English, and we had a great conversation there and back. He also educated me on tequila production, and that was fascinating.
I was served cafe de olla and a pastry upon my arrival; both were very good, and I will make that henceforth.
My guide and I tried to have a conversation, but neither of us spoke the other’s language very well, but we got by, and the ride, although quite warm, was enjoyable. I really enjoyed my day at Mr Lionso’s ranch. I hope my Padre enjoys his tequila I bought there!

Hidden gem in Mazatlan - We had an excellent time! The one place for improvement is the initial contact. When I downloaded the event description the form said our driver would call us when he met us at the port. I was awaiting a call or text but the office sent an email and I didn't open my email account and that lead to a little confusion, but that was resolved. We had a wonderful time! We road horseback down to the beach and got to know members of our party from our ship along the way. One woman had said she had been trying to find oysters on this trip and had so far been unsuccessful. By chance, when we got to the beach we met aquaculture oyster farmers and she bought a bushel bag for everybody to share. The guides shucked them and served them to us with their usual taquitos, home made tortillas and queso for lunch. The oysters were a pleasant surprise for guests and guides alike! We sampled the tequila distilled right there from the agave also grown on the ranch and some unique bouganvilla tea. The owner of the ranch, Mr Lionis, came and spoke with us, shared his family history and generally regaled us with local info and stories. His grandson came to the table and sang to us in spanish and english. It was a wonderful time. I'd do that again.

A must see when in Mazatlan! - Beautiful ranch, horses, and great staff! We had a great day at the ranch. Tequila tasting was amazing! The hibiscus tequila is so good. Lunch was unreal, the tequila cheese was the best! Bring pesos because the gift shop has beautiful jewelry and leather bags, as well as other trinkets and souvenirs. A must do when in Mazatlan!

Beautiful Ride - I enjoyed the time riding along the beach. Beautiful scenery. Would have liked to have moved a little faster. The group I came in was split between horses or ATVs. I had to wait around quite awhile waiting on the ATV riders to return. Communication wasn’t great.

Horses not safe. Do not Recommend. - My husband and I went to the Mr. Lionso ranch to ride horses on the beach. (We don’t have the option to ride on the back at home) We are very experienced horse riders and immediately knew it was not safe. As soon as I asked my horse to walk it was pinning its ears and rounding its back. My husbands horse (tall black horse) was pinning its ears, raising his hind end and trying to take him into the trees and refusing to leave the yard. The more you pressured the horse the more sass he was giving. I also went back to see if my husband’s horse would follow mine and it pinned its ears and charged my horse ready to bite. Immediately we refused to go on the ride and got off. Didn’t even make it out of the yard. Very disappointed. The guides themselves are not horsemen. You would expect these horses to be plugs on the trail and safe. Also was disappointed in the body condition of the horses. I will be letting the WestJet representative who we booked through know this is not okay.
After refusing the horse ride we joined the ATV ride. Do not recommend.

I left bruised & bleeding and my family and I terrified with no apology - I am incredibly surprised that this establishment has reviews as positive as it does. I will summarize our experience by saying, we waited an hour to ride horses. I had to insist on getting off of my horse (luckily, I speak Spanish), which was young and completely untrained for riding, attempting to charge repeatedly, kicking his legs off to the side (the guide had a rope holding him, because he was aware of this behavior). It was absolutely terrifying. Within minutes, my legs were bruised and cut. Despite it all, the guide insisted I stay on. I had to repeatedly insist. I am very fit and have ridden many horses in my life; nothing like this experience. I was then told to ride bareback on my daughter's horse, which was incredibly uncomfortable and didn't feel safe either. I had to ask to get off of that horse, too. There was no jungle. The beach had lot's of trash. The horses were hungry, thirsty, smelled bad, and were clearly poorly cared for. In between the long ride they gave before ours, they weren't given any food or water. They tried throughout the "tour" to eat and drink. My initial horse was left to roam freely. So, as we returned from our "tour" (which was about 30 mins of walking to the beach and turning around, not being kept together as a family group), that horse charged in between our horses, startling the others to run. Our entire family was trembling and yelling out to keep us away from the out of control horse.
After I dismounted, I told the guide how dangerous that horse is and that he should not be ridden by people who are not trained professionals. He laughed at me and said I was wrong.
After we returned, very hungry, the owner asked if we were ready to leave. We said we were hungry and hadn't eaten yet. He critiqued us for not eating while we were waiting for the horses (nobody told us to eat then; it was 11am, and we had no idea we'd wait an hour). We expressed again wanting to eat and he said we wouldn't want to because they only served breakfast.
Despite this, we sat down. I can express positive things about the kitchen staff. They served a nice enough meal and were very prompt as we were now late to getting back.
Finally, my father spoke with the owner about the out of control horse and my interaction with the guide. The owner said, "Well, he doesn't speak English". My father clarified that we'd had the conversation in Spanish. The owner then said, "Well, it is an animal". He took no responsibility for the terrible experience we'd had, my bleeding and bruised leg, the fact that my husband and I took turns not riding a horse because they didn't have enough without the one that wasn't suitable to ride. He offered us no discount or apology.
I would never go to this place again and would discourage anyone from it.

Not Safe! - Don’t go horseback riding here! I booked horseback riding for my family, a group of 9. My horse did not want to walk and the guy was throwing stuff at my horse and cussing at it. The horse that they gave my sister to ride was totally out of control. Right away it was bucking with her on it and she ended up walking the whole way. The guy walking with us even told my sister (she speaks fluent Spanish) that the horse was not broken, and was still wild. She said she wanted to get off the horse almost immediately, and he laughed at her. Finally after the 3rd time she got off the horse. When we took a little break at the far end of the walk, I noticed my niece’s horse looked like it had a hurt leg. Another younger guy was literally pulling her horse the whole way - sad! On the way back ran into that same horse again. They were trying to capture the horse, but it was running all over and bucking its front and back legs, meanwhile they kept us walking to the horse, with our kids in the front- totally not safe. The horse was out of control running all over and my nephews horse got spooked and took off.
FYI, you will spend 30+ minutes driving each way, and the 3 hour time slot easily turns into 4+ even if you have a reservation. We could have eaten first but they said to wait for the horses to get back (they left with the previous group as soon as we got there). We went way over on time and had to rush back to get back on our cruise even though we should have had plenty of time.
These people clearly only care about making money and don’t care about the horses safety and well being or the safety of their guests.

UNSAFE,HARASSED,RUDE. Avoid at all costs If you want to have a good time in this city without feeling danger - DO NOT DO 4PM. The pick up was at 4pm and we got there at 4:45 pm. However, the ranch closes at 5pm so there were only 1 staff while we can visibly see all the other staff packing up and getting ready to go home. The one tour guide who ended up staying because Alejandra (the tour operator) told him to stay kept harassing us to “let’s cut the tour short so we can go home”. Not to mention there’s ZERO safety concerns with the horse running wild into the cactus areas and spiky plants since the horses anrenot perfectly trained. Incredibly dangerous for kids. When we got back to the ranch from the horse back after twenty minutes everything was closed and all the staffs have went home. On the table outside we see a plastic bag with two lunch boxes packed in styrofoam sitting out on the cold in a plastic bag. We were told to take it home and eat it but since I was curious I opened the lunch boxes in front of them and of course half the lunch is missing. The lunch was super cold as well. Afterwards we asked to do the mezcal tour guide but they told us the guide who is responsible for this have already went home. So of course we could not experience it. We then proceeded to ask about the shops and of course no surprise, that was closed too. I messaged Alejandra asap for a partial refund but she essentially told us to go away since we experienced the horse back. What a scam honestly. Finally not to mention the staffs do not speak English. The best part about this tour was the taxi driver unironically.
