Dambulla Cave Temple - Known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, this World Heritage Site is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka, located in the central region of the country, 148 kilometers east of Colombo. The site features five caves, each with unique interiors and statues, though they may appear similar at first glance. The monastery dates back to the first century BC when the caves were initially converted. Over the years, it has been expanded and has housed various religions. The caves, as seen today, were restored and repainted by the Kingdom of Kandy in the 18th century.

Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - The Sinhalese king Kassyapa (reigned 477–495) constructed a palace resembling a monumental lion on several acres at the summit, designed as a defense against his adversaries. Despite the king’s defeat in 495 and the palace’s subsequent ruin, the site became a pilgrimage destination and is now a popular tourist attraction. Visitors make their final ascent through the lion’s open paws, one of the few remaining palace structures. The site also features 21 rock paintings of Apsara (celestial singers and dancers). Sigiriya was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.
