Dambulla Cave Temple - Known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, this World Heritage Site is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka, located in the central region of the country, 148 kilometers east of Colombo. The site comprises five caves, each with unique interiors and statues, though at first glance they may appear similar. The monastery dates back to the first century BC when the caves were initially converted. Over the years, it has been expanded and has housed various religions. The caves, as seen today, were restored and repainted by the Kingdom of Kandy in the 18th century.

He adorned the walls with frescoes and constructed a magnificent palace atop the rock, accessible only through the mouth of a giant carved lion.
