Welcome to the Kalahari

Central Kalahari Game Reserve - Departing from Maun at 7:00 AM, the journey to CKGR will lead to setting up camp in Deception Valley, expected to be reached in about two hours. During and shortly after the summer rains (September to January), the northern flat grasslands of the reserve are bustling with wildlife, including springbok, gemsbok, wildebeest, hartebeest, eland, and giraffe, all gathering at prime grazing spots.

Throughout the rest of the year, even when wildlife is more dispersed, the experience of traversing this vast, untouched wilderness is truly remarkable. Upon arrival at camp, lunch will be served, followed by a relaxing afternoon siesta.

An evening game drive and sunset viewing in Deception Valley will be on the agenda. Upon returning to camp, guests will enjoy a hot camp shower before dining around a campfire. Accommodations include a 3.2 x 3.2m tent with a stretcher bed, veranda, and an attached bathroom featuring a flushable toilet, shower, and sink.

Sunday Pan and Passarge Valley

Central Kalahari Game Reserve - Start the day with a refreshing morning over coffee/tea and rusks, setting off at 6:30 AM for a morning game drive to the Sunday Pan waterhole, followed by brunch at Passarge Valley. Under the shade of dense umbrella thorn Acacia tortillis thickets, cheetahs and lions rest during the midday heat.

CKGR is home to an impressive variety of birds, with the Secretary bird, Kori Bustard, and Ostrich being the most notable species to observe, along with potential sightings of Lappet-faced Vultures and White-backed Vultures.

The exploration of this stunning landscape will continue, seeking out its natural wonders. The morning drive will conclude by passing through Leopard Pan, returning to camp for lunch and an afternoon siesta.

After a well-deserved rest, an evening game drive to Deception Pan will offer a spectacular sunset. As night falls, the return to camp will follow.

Final Leg: Say Goodbye to the Kalahari

Central Kalahari Game Reserve - Greet the early morning with coffee/tea and rusks, embarking on a dawn game drive with hopes of spotting cheetahs, a resident pride of lions, and several leopards whose territories include parts of the pan.

Returning to camp mid-morning, guests can enjoy a warm shower before a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, the journey back to Maun will commence with a leisurely drive.

The reserve may offer some farewell surprises on the return journey, so keep cameras ready to capture the final memories of the Kalahari. The drive will be an opportunity to continue learning about this unique reserve and its wonders.

Arrival in Maun is anticipated by mid-afternoon, depending on wildlife sightings along the way. Guests will be transported to their hotel or may choose to embark on another tour to either Moremi Game Reserve or the Okavango Delta, both highly recommended to enhance the Kalahari experience.
