Fun tour, amazing guide, food OK, weather terrible - We really enjoyed our day trip despite the heavy rain for the first part of the day. Indeed, as Paula, our driver/guide, pointed out, the rain meant that the waterfalls were even more spectacular. Our guide was pretty spectacular too; she gave a really good explanation of what we saw with some very interesting background history and colour, as well as expertly navigating the long and winding road than led …. to George Harrison’s old house on Maui ! (Note: it wasn’t part of the tour but Paula told us about it.) Highlights of the tour for us were: the Keanae peninsula, turtles resting on the beach, a black sands beach with a cave and blow hole, the amazing waterfalls - we lost count of them ! Unfortunately, the food wasn’t that good, particularly for vegetarians. To be honest, plain rice and pasta salad may be traditional in Hawaii, but it wasn’t that great and was full of carbs. Also the “juice” was too sugary for me - so I mainly stuck to water. But we didn’t go for the grub, and the tour was amazing.

Exceptional small group tour - Had an exceptional tour with this group. Tour size was small enough (9) that good attention was provided to each visitor and all questions were answered when asked. Tour guide (Malia) was just recently hired but is a local who knows the route and is very familiar with all the stops and Hawaiian lore that is associated with them. Stops were made with adequate time to take pictures, purchase souvenirs, and explore the location. I highly recommend this company if you want to spend a day exploring part of the island of Maui.

Nothing but the best! - Words can’t describe how wonderful Paula was on the Road to Hana Tour this week. Although pick up at our hotel was 6:15 a.m., I wasn’t ready to end our time with Paula at drop off (dark thirty). She shared so many details/stories while driving the 106 curves safely, stopping for our breaks, serving our yummy lunch, AND respecting local drivers. Highly recommend this company for your touring interests…they know the roads!

Leave the Road to Hana drive to Valley Isle Excursions - A week before our trip to Maui I had a question about changing into swimsuits for our scheduled Road to Hana tour and sent an email to the company. I received a reply within 30 minutes. The answer was Yes, one can change into swimsuits during lunch before the black sand beach visit and then change out of them at a stop after the waterfall stop to be dry for the ride back to the hotels. A few days before our tour I received an email confirmation that included other useful information, such as bring along swimwear, towels, water shoes and a light jacket for the air conditioned van. I had not considered the A/C and I'm always cold, so that is a very welcome heads-up. On the day of our tour we received texts that the driver was on his way. Pretty close to the scheduled meeting time the van pulled up to our resort. The van was spacious with huge windows. Our tour was full with all 12 passenger seats occupied. Our driver/guide was Travis. He was born and raised in Hana and was a wealth of knowledge about Hana, Maui, and Hawaii. He seemed to be related to all the locals he passed on the road. There was not dull moment. Among the stops along the way were Maui Tropical Plantation for breakfast, Auntie Sandy's Banana Bread stand for those that wished to purchase, Wai'anapanapa State Park (black sand beach, also with a lava tube and a blow hole), Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside Park (usually calm enough to swim but the falls were roaring due to rain earlier in the day), and Ho'okipa Beach with turtles on the beach. Travis was an excellent driver and guide. We got great value from the cost of the excursion. One minor thing did bother us. We are Jewish and were uncomfortable during the praising Jesus sing-along. Regardless, we recommend this tour and especially Travis as a guide.
