If you want a first class day trip to see the sights with your own personal guide, this is the one to book! - Derrick was truly an incredible guide — this was hands down one of the highlights of our trip to Maui. We booked a private Road to Hāna tour, and it felt less like a tour and more like spending the day with a knowledgeable friend who genuinely loves his island.
He customized the entire experience around our interests, encouraged questions, and shared so much about Maui, Hāna, and the local culture. Along the way, he told captivating legends, myths, and personal stories about the land and his family that made the history come alive in a way no guidebook ever could.
The scenery was breathtaking — waterfalls cascading down lush cliffs, dramatic ocean views, and tropical landscapes that didn’t even look real. And the wildlife! We saw around 50 sea turtles and even spotted whales while driving. It felt magical.
If you’re considering the Road to Hāna, do yourself a favor and book with Derrick. His knowledge, humor, and genuine aloha spirit made this an unforgettable experience.

Very glad we got a tour guide for this! - We arrived in Maui and definitely wanted to check out more of the island than just the west beaches and South Maui so reading on-line I was checking out the trip to Hāna. I considered driving myself but called these guys to find out more about the drive and their services. I was glad I did. After talking to Derrick about the drive I decided to hire these guys for a couple of reasons: A. With a driver I could focus on the sights sounds and enjoy the views without worrying about the cars around me and B. Derrick and these guys have extensive knowledge of the area and were able to get us to the areas my family and I wanted to see most. Derrick before the trip was curious in what we would want to see and it was clear with his time management we got exactly what we were hoping for. We saw the North shore rugged beach scenery, got to experience the red sand beach, the black sand beach, an old church the best damn Thai food I’ve ever had, (I’ve spent 10 days in Thailand btw). We also got to spend some time at a waterfall and swim, as well has shop local for snacks and souvenirs. There are lots of stops, and reflecting on it, I probably would have rushed through some of these spots and spent too much time in the wrong places. Derrick was super entertaining as I guess he also teaches at a local school here in Maui and his stories about the island and island lore was super interesting and even pulled my kids into them. We as a family learned about how the islands were formed, history of the area, kings, queens, princes and captain Cook. Derrick even mentioned some of the island myths and lore all of which makes you forget there was no music playing. He was also able to use a microphone for my mother who is hard of hearing. We left early and met him at 7am and were glad we did as the trip to Hāna and back took 11 hours and the time flew by. So much to see really and with these guys while I know I didn’t see everything I don’t feel like I missed out on anything either. Highly recommended.

Look no further - book with this company!! - Book with this company!!!! We had a wonderful experience on the Road to Hana. Derrick was our tour guide, and his knowledge and enthusiasm for Hawaiian history and culture were contagious. It added so much to the tour!
Before the tour even started though, Derrick and his wife, Leslie, proved themselves to be amazing people. I’m still not sure if it was a Viator glitch or the mistake of our group, but somehow there was mix up with the date we booked. We were in Maui for a family wedding, and only had one day that we could tour. They did everything in their power to ensure we took the tour on the only day that we could make it, despite it being their only day off. They are wonderful people and hosts. Do NOT hesitate to book with this company!

The perfect Road to Hana adventure - Best ever! Everything you could ask for and more. Our tour guide Rich was excellent. He shared numerous stories about the island and his knowledge of the local flora and fauna was amazing. Book this tour, you won’t be disappointed.

Rich is a great guide - Rich picked us up at our Airbnb and was an awesome guide. He has clearly traveled this road many times and was very knowledgeable about the terrain, road, history and the things that would most interest our family. He was up for anything and we could stop, stay or go based on our wants. Drinks, snacks and umbrellas were great too. Thank you Rich for giving us such a great experience.

Outstanding day with Maui Sunset Adventures - We had the BEST day on RTH yesterday. Our guide from Maui Sunset Adventures (MSA) made the day so memorable with lots of information on just about everything on Maui and then some. We made the journey from the comfort of a KIA Carnival. Of course some spots were busy with limited parking, so Derek would tell us about the stop and where to go and where to find him, then drop us off to enjoy; he always encouraged us to take our time and enjoy the experience. Not needing to worry about parking and driving, (as well as insights on restroom availability & quality 😉) made us feel relaxed with much Aloha Spirit 🤙. Our exploration was tailored to the sights we were interested in seeing, with pointers for places to go on future trips. Derek's conversational style made us feel like we were traveling with family, rather than a typical tour guide with a standard script. Definitely consider taking a tour with MSA; you won't be disappointed.

Great tour - Wonderful tour. Very personalized. Our group of 4 were the only people on this smaller tour so made it MUCH nicer than a big group. Tour guide very knowledgeable of the island and shared great info. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Tour guide name was Richard

Should call it, “Beyond Expectations Tour” - We hired a personal tour guide for 5 of us through Viator, and we could not have asked for a better tour than what we got! From pickup to drop off, nearly 12 hours later, we had the absolute best time and visited some of the most beautiful sites we’d ever seen on “the road to Hana.” Our guide, Derrick was intent on making sure we’d never forget this trip. We took lots of pics and made memories for life!!
