A Rocky Start, But a Smooth Ride

Our adventure began with a bit of a hiccup. The pickup was delayed due to some unforeseen circumstances with the couple before us. As a mom who’s always on the lookout for smooth sailing, I was a tad anxious. But once we were whisked away to the Maui Tropical Plantation for a delightful continental breakfast, my spirits lifted. The plantation was a lush paradise, and the perfect spot to kick off our day.

We met our guide, Travis, and boarded the custom-built van. I was initially concerned about being seated in the back row, but the large picture windows ensured that every seat was a good one. My initial grouchiness quickly faded as the beauty of Maui unfolded before us.

Hawaiian Words and Waterfalls

Travis, our guide, was a native of Hāna and his passion for the island was infectious. He started the tour by teaching us some Hawaiian words, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the day. His stories were rich with personal history and Hawaiian culture, making each waterfall and scenic stop more meaningful.

The tour was a full day of breathtaking sights, but it was made easy by the frequent restroom stops and the delicious hot lunch provided. And oh, the banana bread! I never thought I’d be so excited about banana bread, but it was a delightful treat at one of the snack stands.

We had two one-hour stops for swimming: a stunning black sand beach and a waterfall. Travis even joined us in the water to guide us safely across the slippery rocks. His attentiveness made us feel like family, and by the midpoint of the trip, we were all singing together in the van.

Singing, Sea Turtles, and Sweet Memories

As the day progressed, Travis continued to check in with each of us, ensuring we were safe and having a wonderful time. His ability to make the road to Hāna feel smooth and enjoyable was impressive, especially since I usually suffer from motion sickness.

The grand finale was a surprise sea turtle viewing, a magical end to an already perfect day. My husband and I were celebrating our 20th anniversary, and this tour was the perfect way to mark the occasion. The combination of excitement and relaxation was just what we needed.
