Mixed feelings - So unfortunately, let’s start off with the fact that the bus that was supposed to pick us up never did originally. We had to drive 45 minutes to 2 different locations to get picked up. The logistics was not good. They are not set up to pick up but yet offer a pick up on the original advertisement. Dispatch was friendly, but seems like communication was bad . I must admit, though to their credit they did give us a 50% discount and apologize for the inconvenience.. This experience is extremely weather dependent. It was drizzling and raining at the top of the mountain so we encountered a lot of fog. Overall, it is worth it. I just feel like it would’ve been a better experience if the weather was better. I’m still glad I made the adventure despite all of the bumps in the road.

Gorgeous view, debatable transportation - The actual sunset and views were AMAZING! I would caution anyone taking this tour that it's not just a simple bus ride as you're led to believe. You get picked up at your hotel and driven part way then have to transfer to another bus. We ended up having to wait 40 minutes and the driver didn't explain so most of is stayed on the bus when we could've explored the plantation we stopped at. When we got to the top of the mountain they gave us our pre-ordered meals. We had ordered one of our sandwiches to be a certain way due to allergy issues. When we picked up the food the driver, who had the list, handed us our 5 meals. The special meal was inaccurate so that person was unable to eat it only to find out later that the driver didn't pay attention to the list. There HAD been a meal made appropriately but apparently given to someone else! Then on the way back we had to, AGAIN, transfer busses!! This driver asked if our meal had been appropriate.. If this driver was aware, why wasn't the driver who actually handed out the food!! There was a disabled person on the trip and switching on and off busses was incredibly difficult for them.

Don’t waste your money. - Eight hours of my life I will never get back. We get picked up from our hotel only to spend an hour on the bus searching for other guests at other hotels or locations, going to a strip mall two times to no avail. This is before getting to the transfer location for the actual tour bus. Then the drive up the mountain with the insipid driver, who knew the weather would be bad. Get to the top , no visibility. So we get our dinner which is a box with a sandwich and salad, which we are expected to eat on our laps. No bottled water, only warm tea, which the driver said was hot when he out it in board over four hours ago. Then we trek back down the mountain only to be delivered to the wrong transfer site! Adding another hour to our time on the bus. Five hundred dollars spent for a miserable day and a lousy box “dinner”. This tour is a travesty, with no redeeming quality. I would rather have stayed at my hotel in the sun than waste a whole day on a bus. “

Total waste of time and Polynesian Tours knew it.... - Good morning, I would be very remiss not to reach out to Polynesian Adventures to describe the experience my group and I experienced yesterday during our Haleakalā Sunset Tour. We arrived at our pick up point early, at 1:15 and were promptly picked up by your shuttle driver. After he asked one of our male passengers when his baby was due (the gentleman has just lost 30 pounds and is proud of it) we drove in circles to pick up three more passengers over the next hour. Two we picked up at our hotel. We stopped and waited at Safeway twice, for no evident reason. We then went to the transfer point where we joined five other passengers. Looking at the top of the mountain/volcano I asked our driver what the chances of things clearing up there were. He was vague and urged me to climb aboard. The driver was very knowledgeable and we learned much about the island. Once we reached the summit, about 90 minutes before sunset, we perhaps saw sunshine no more than five minutes over the next 90 minutes. As well as the driver and your company know the island, I am sure you knew this would be the case. The driver even spoke with the park ranger half way up who told him it was pretty “soupy “ up there. As we sat with little to do over the 90 minutes, we were finally served dry sandwiches and salad and expected to eat them on our laps , juggling everything. The only thing offered to drink was lukewarm instant coffee, tea or hot chocolate. “It was hot when I put it in there” we were told. That was four hours ago! This isn’t your first rodeo! So then we made it safely down the mountain to the pickup point, only it was not the correct pickup point. Nobody told our driver the point had changed and we had to drive 30 minutes out of our way to rendezvous with our driver. And, to make it even more ridiculous, you ended up with three vehicles to transport us when you only needed two. Great communication! So, to sum it up, we lost eight hours of our vacation for no views (I understand that is Mother Nature), nothing to drink for eight hours, an insult by our driver, and all this only cost us $250+ per person. Obviously, I am not happy, nor was anyone in my group nor any other riders.

DO NOT BOOK HALEAKALA TOURS WITH POLYNESIAN ADVENTURES - DO NOT BOOK THE HALEAKALA MAUI SUNSET TOUR OR ANY TOUR WITH POLYNESIAN ADVENTURE. What a disorganized tour group. We received 2 confirmations with instructions and pick-up times only to be left waiting in the hot Maui sun for 45 minutes. When calling to inquire where the driver was, call went to Oahu who had to call the group in Maui and I was disconnected several times. Then we were told the driver would be there in an HOUR! So I asked about 2 hours being knocked off our tour (which cost $500.00+ for two of us) and was told we “might” make the sunset. We said we were not interested and asked for a refund. Then we received a voice message as we were walking back to our villa saying they would have an Uber driver pick us up. Not another tour guide but someone without any knowledge bring us to the top. We have a car and could drive ourselves or we could order an Uber on our own for much less than this tour cost. We thought we were getting a tour guide to talk about the sights we were seeing, and for both of us to relax and enjoy the sights. What a disappointment this has been. I can honestly say this is the only bad experience I have had using Trip Advisor/Viator and I have used them a lot both domestic and international. I was unable to give a ZERO rating. It was not worthy of even 1 star.
