Great tour - It was a great tour! Everyone was so nice and patient. Tour was beautiful. Didn't get to see a sunrise due to weather but tour can't control Mother Nature.

Wonderful experience! - If you are debating whether to wake up in the middle of the night for this, just do it. Our 2026 sunrise tour with Bike Maui was a highlight of our trip. The Sunrise: Bike Maui picked us up, from our hotel, at 3:00 AM and drove us to their Haiku bike shop where we picked up the bikes, helmets, wind jackets and pants. Our guide, Dan, was fantastic—funny, full of jokes, and deeply knowledgeable about the island's history. He drove us up to the 10,023-foot summit while we tried to stay awake. If you get car sick, you will definitely want to take something to help you ahead of the drive up the mountain. Watching the sun break over the sea of clouds from the crater rim is surreal, however, we did not get to see the sunrise on this trip due to cloud coverage. We have seen it before, so we do know how beautiful it can be. Pro tip: It was 30°F at the top with very intense wind. Dress in several layers; they provided wind jackets and pants, but you’ll want your own base layers and gloves. The Bike Ride: After sunrise, they drove us back down to the 6,500-foot mark (the park entrance) to start the ride. This is where we met our bike guide, Russell. Russell was amazing and has been a guide for 30 years, so he knows what he is doing. Russell was very attentive during the ride making sure everyone was following the rules and feeling comfortable on their bikes. The Terrain: You descend through the "Fabulous 29" switchbacks. It’s almost entirely downhill coasting—you barely have to pedal, just manage your brakes. • Safety: We felt very secure. The Kona bikes were in top shape with excellent hydraulic disc brakes, and our guides followed in a support van to keep traffic at a distance. • Scenery: You pass through eucalyptus forests and ranch lands with amazing ocean views. We stopped halfway in the town of Makawao for coffee and breakfast. What to Bring: What to bring: • Layers: Beanie, gloves, several layers of tops, warm pants and warm socks are a must for the summit. • Backpack: To stash the layers you shed as it gets warmer during the descent.

amazing experience! - awesome experience! you ride the bus to the top of the mountain. you leave at 4:00 a.m. dress warm! bring a backpack to shed your warm clothes, if you don't I guess you can just throw them in the van but it gets warmer as you work your way down the mountain. it is in the thirties at the top of the crater for the sunrise experience. very cold. views and pictures are breathtaking! you go down to 6500 ft to start biking down the volcano. Dru was our guide. he is very funny and very entertaining. he made the trip that much more fun! you ride the first 7 Mi downhill through switchbacks picking up plenty of speed but it never feels unsafe. the section in the middle you ride in the van because the locals don't want the cyclist riding through it. then you get back out and ride the final 7 miles back to the beginning. you stop halfway in a little town to buy souvenirs and eat breakfast. Dru is loaded with fun facts and plenty of bad dad jokes! we had an absolute blast during the entire experience. all equipment was safe and excellent quality. you will enjoy it, praise God. have fun! take good care of Dru, tip. well, he's an excellent guide!

Great bike ride down a volcano! - This was a wonderful experience. The ride up Haleakala to see the sunrise was well worth it. Dan, our driver and tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the Hawaiian culture, the flora, and the fauna.the Kate and Anthony, our bike tour guide and support driver, took excellent care of us as we biked down the volcano and through the communities leading back to the drop-off point. I would definitely do this tour again.

Great experience and tour guide! - Kimo was an amazing bus tour guide! The self guided bike ride was fantastic as well. Kimo truly made the trip unforgettable aside from the incredible sunrise views. Thanks for the pics and the laughs Kimo!

The entire experience,... - The entire experience, from the drive up the volcano to the entire bike trip was incredible. It's basically two activities in one trip. You start with the sunrise on top of the volcano and then ride bikes down the entire way back with awesome guides. If you're getting scared away by the early roll call, don't let that stop you -- it's a fantastic trip.

BEWARE!!! - Beware! More dangerous than you think or they tell you as you are bicycling with traffic going both ways and likely that on occasion you might cross into other lane or oncoming traffic may cross into your lane on some of the turns. This happens to someone in our group and was hit by on oncoming tour bus. No incident report was filed and instead rest of group felt rushed to catch up to another group. Luckily after an ER visit wiith up to a 5k insurance deductible, nothing was broken or an internal bleeding found. The expression of feeling like you got hit by a bus is exactly what happens in this instance. We were never given the other tour bus’s information as only the bus that was following us had a conversation with the other driver. We had to start after the national park on the way down as several deaths caused the bike tour to start at about 6500 elevation. We also had to hop back on the bus for several miles as other reported deaths during due to other accidents and deaths. No need for a guide as they rush you out from top of mountain as soon as sun rises and would check with national park on their sponsored hiking tours instead. Hope this doesn’t happen to another family and hope they shut down ride entirely l. In fact, locals and hospital call the ride the Maui Deathkill. BEWARE!!!!

Not worth the money - The bus driver had zero knowledge of the island and was a very poor communicator. This is not a bike ride down Haleakala, you barely get on a bike at all, as soon as you get on you are getting off again and back on the bus. The description needs to be a lot more clear, if you are looking for a bike ride this isn’t it, if you are looking to spend a fortune for a bus to drive you up to see a sunrise then this is for you.
