The Great Zimbabwe Monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is rich in history and offers an ideal day trip for visitors in Zimbabwe. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the country’s Late Iron Age. Great Zimbabwe functioned as a royal palace for the Zimbabwean monarch and served as the center of political power. One of its most notable features is the walls, some of which reach over five meters in height and were built without the use of mortar. There are 200 similar sites in southern Africa, such as Bumbusi in Zimbabwe and Manyikeni in Mozambique, featuring monumental, mortarless walls, but none are as large and well-preserved as those of Great Zimbabwe.
