- Syracuse - Syracuse is one of Sicily’s most charming cities. Often overlooked, it was once the most significant city in Western Europe. Its origins trace back to Greek settlers who, from 733 BC, transformed Sicily into Magna Graecia, a time when Greece dominated the Mediterranean and the known world.
- Ortigia - Ortigia, the ancient part of Syracuse, is actually an island now connected to the mainland by a short bridge. It represents the heart and soul of Syracuse, chosen by the Greeks for its defensive advantages to establish their new city. Recently revitalized, Ortigia is drawing an increasing number of visitors.
- Duomo di Siracusa - At the center of Ortigia is Piazza Duomo, where the Duomo stands prominently. The Duomo is truly unique, originally built by the Greeks as the Temple of Athena. When the Byzantines conquered Syracuse, they converted it into a Christian church rather than demolishing it. The Normans later altered the interior and constructed a more Christian façade. After the 1693 earthquake destroyed the façade, the current Sicilian baroque façade was erected. The Duomo is one of the oldest sites of continuous worship globally, showcasing Greek, Byzantine, Norman, and Baroque architecture all in one.
- Marzamemi - Just 45 minutes from Pozzallo lies Marzamemi, a charming fishing village. The colorful rows of one-story fishermen’s houses are punctuated by the Tonnara, a former tuna processing plant built by the Arabs in the 10th century. Overlooking the fishermen’s houses are Palazzo Principe Villadorata and the Chiesa di San Francesco di Paola. The central Piazza Regina Margherita serves as a popular gathering spot. The village is vibrant with color, featuring bright blue doors and windows, potted red geraniums, and multicolored wooden fishing boats, all set against the backdrop of the blue Mediterranean Sea. For those who enjoy Sicilian delicacies, Campisi offers traditional treats like bottarga, dried tuna roe, which has remained largely unchanged since Arab-Phoenician times.
- Pozzallo - Nearing the end of the journey, the group will arrive in Pozzallo on the return trip to Malta.
