Fez – Arzou – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga

Merzouga Desert - Set off early and head south. The first stop is Ifrane, known as Morocco’s “Little Switzerland.” Then, drive through the cedar forests of Arzou, keeping an eye out for Barbary apes that inhabit these trees. Cross the Ziz Valley with its dramatic gorges, visiting the villages of Midelt and Erfoud. From Erfoud, take a dirt road into the desert to reach the small village of Merzouga in southeastern Morocco. Spend the night in a hotel at the edge of the sandy dunes.
