You would not be able to know about crafts, craftmen and culture yourself. So get a guide is must. - I had only half day to spend in Marrakech before heading to Morzouga so I decided to make use of a limited time and do a guided tour instead getting lost in Souks. The tour was very informative and I was introduced to different crafts, craftmen and cultures. The guide introduced various authentic food shops as well. I think If you are short of time and want more indepth knowledge of cultures then this trip is for you.

Basking in the souks or Marrakech - Such a rich, deep and culturally relevant experience. One thing is to just see spots you can easily access through any itinerary you can find online. One thing is to bask into the beauty of the environment with an experienced tour guides who knows the ins and outs of the area with the historical knowledge to back it up. I had a tour with Mohamed B. who was friendly and very knowledgeable. Pro tip: the tour has many stops around important souk areas where you might find whatever might tickle your fancy, from rugs to clothes to artisanal leatherwork, woodwork or metalwork. Card payments can be arranged but will not come in your favor if you hope to save a buck or two. I recommend coming with an empty suitcase and Dirhams in hand to make the best of this thrilling experience.

Family visit to the medina during the Christmas holidays - We visited the souks of the medina with our guide Youssef. The visit lasts more than 2 hours without ever being done at the pace but taking the time to listen to his stories and indications. He introduced us to the different districts of the medina and introduced us to local crafts and the specifics of the old town. At no time were we forced to buy anything and things were done naturally. Youssef is joker, smiling and always ready to adapt to your requests. I highly recommend it!! Thank you again for showing this to our two children.

Fascinating place, but be very careful of local scammers! - I think the meeting point for this tour needs to be reviewed as it was complete chaos. There was literally around 80 people all at the same point at the same time, all trying to work out which tour guide they were booked with. Plus the staff of the restaurant which was the meeting point, were getting annoyed at all of those people blocking the entrance to their restaurant (understandably). We were very nearly in a spot of bother when a man approached is wearing fake ID saying he was our guide, but luckily just as he was taking us away, the real tour guide rang me & told us to get away from the man ASAP as he was fake, I dread to think what could have happened. But once the initial drama was sorted, we did enjoy the tour. There's lots of walking so not ideal for those who can't walk far. The souks can get very busy so it can be overwhelming, lots of pushing & shoving. The guide did take us right into the depths of the souks to see local artisans which was good, the guide can also help you to make purchases & barter the prices. A very fascinating place.

Felt like a long sales pitch - This was quite a short experience in the souks, but a lot of it felt like a subtle sales pitch. Not much of the history was discussed, nor the architecture. Unfortunately it seems to be more about visiting particular establishments in an effort to get you to buy that owners goods. Having said that, we enjoyed visiting the souks and our guide was likeable and personable. We just wish we felt less like “marks”, especially at the “herbalist” when we were all sat down and given some info, but mainly a sales pitch lasting about 25 mins.

Very mixed experience! - Overall, we had a good time, but there are a few points I would like to highlight. First, we were surprised by a change of guide that was not planned. However, the guide assigned to us was warm and gave us an interesting introduction to the history of Marrakech. The visit of a foundouk transformed into workshops and a bread oven, although not planned in the program, was a nice surprise and allowed us to discover some local life. However, we were disappointed after the visit. After a brief introduction, we followed the shops without much explanation about the different souks. We would have liked to know more about these iconic places. The most disappointing point was our visit to a shop presented as selling handicrafts of all types. We were shocked by the exorbitant prices: a small round tuya box (about 15x15 cm) and a mirror with a ceramic frame (about 15x25cm), for a total of 3850 dirhams (or 385 euros). At first, we did not realize the high amount, thinking it was 38.50 euros. One of our friends alerted us to the excessive price for normal quality products. The seller then changed tone and became a little aggressive, which made the experience very unpleasant. We left the store with a feeling of being treated like "liquid dispensers on legs". We trusted our guide, but this experience left us with a bitter taste. I hope this comment will help improve the experience for future visitors.

Marrakech suks - The tour with Omar was okay. He dragged us to friendly traders. But we weren't pushed to buy anything. Spices we wanted to buy and the goods very expensive. It wasn't that Omar gave us good prices. He told us a lot about the history of Marrakech that was interesting. How Moroccans live today, what the current problems are or an examination of the challenge of different cultures that meet here, the changing image of women.... Omar didn't know anything about it. If you're here for the first time and you don't dare to do it alone, the guidance from him is fine. Otherwise it goes well without this guidance.
