The Koutoubia Mosque stands as the largest mosque in Marrakech, also known by names such as Jami ‘al-Kutubiyah, the Kotoubia mosque, the Kutubiya mosque, the Kutubiyyin mosque, and the booksellers’ mosque. Bahia Palace - Proceed to explore the stunning palaces and monuments of Marrakech, including the Bahia Palace. Constructed in the late 19th century, its name means “brilliance” and it was intended to be the most magnificent palace of its era. The finest workers and artisans in the country dedicated six years (1894-1900) to its creation.
-
Jemaa el-Fnaa - Take a walk to discover Jemaa el Fna, the main square in the medina and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although now bustling with street performers, snake charmers, merchants, and orange juice stalls, it was originally established in 1050 for public executions, which may explain its name, translating to “assembly of death.”
-
Saadian Tombs - Next, visit the Royal Kasbah in the southern part of Marrakech’s ancient medina. Built by Sultan Almohad Mansour al-Yacoub, it houses “El Mansouria” (the grand mosque of the kasbah) and the Saadian Tombs. These tombs, discovered and restored in 1917, are renowned for their exquisite decoration and are a major attraction for visitors to Marrakech. They are among the few remaining relics of the Saadian dynasty, which ruled during Marrakech’s golden age from 1524 to 1659.
-
Medina of Marrakesh - With an expert certified tour guide, enjoy an authentic walk through Marrakech’s old city. Discover the hidden and genuine side of the ancient walled medina, wander through some of the oldest quarters, and learn about the medieval lifestyle of its residents and their daily activities. Admire the towering minaret, intricately carved archways, splendid Moorish architecture, and ornate mosques. Stroll through the souks at the famous Djemaa El Fna square, where tightly packed stalls display exotic goods and fascinating crafts from Morocco’s past.
-
Ben Youssef Madrasa - Established in the 14th century, this historic Islamic school in the heart of Marrakech was once the largest in North Africa and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
-
Jardin Majorelle - The Majorelle Garden was initially created by French painter Jacques Majorelle in 1923. He built a villa there and expanded his property by acquiring additional land filled with his botanical collection from around the world. After Majorelle’s passing, the garden was neglected until Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé discovered and restored it, reviving the house and enriching the botanical garden to its former splendor. The villa studio now hosts a Berber Culture Museum, showcasing the best of YSL’s personal collection of Berber items, including authentic handmade silver jewelry, antique ceramics, rugs, and other artworks.
