Jemaa el-Fnaa - The journey begins from your accommodation in the Medina of Marrakech (or from the airport if flights arrive early).
High Atlas Mountains - The High Atlas Mountains are a highlight of this trip. After an hour’s drive from Marrakech, enjoy the breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains and quaint Berber villages. There will be stops for photos at various panoramic viewpoints and an opportunity to visit a women’s Argan Oil cooperative.
Travel through the highest pass of Tizi n’Tichka (2260m) and continue to Ait Ben Haddou Ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - Aït Benhaddou is a historic ksar along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakesh in Morocco. It is a prime example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
The Ait Benhaddou ksar exemplifies traditional Southern Moroccan architecture. It is the most renowned ksar in the region, possibly in all of Morocco, due to its appearances in numerous films. A visit to this UNESCO World Heritage site transports you to another era.
The Ksar is a popular filming location for many movies, including Jewel of the Nile, The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones.
Spend two hours exploring this unique site and having lunch, then continue to Ouarzazate, known for its cinema studios.
Atlas Film Studio - An optional visit to these studios is available, or simply stop for a photo. The entrance fee is €8 per person for the sightseeing group tour, which usually lasts 40 minutes.
Kasbah Amridil - Depending on the season (April to October), visit this Kasbah. Kasbah Amridil is a historic fortified residence in the oasis of Skoura, Morocco. It is one of the most impressive kasbahs of its kind in Morocco and was once featured on the Moroccan 50 dirham note.
The kasbah was founded in the 17th century, initially as a fortified village, a ksar, strategically located along the river and at the entrance to the Skoura palmeraie. In the late 19th century, M’hamed Ben Brahim Nasiri, a local faqih, was chosen by Madani El Glaoui to educate his sons in reading the Qur’an. As compensation, El Glaoui commissioned craftsmen to build Nasiri a tighremt (fortified mansion) at the ksar.
Vallee Des Roses - Enjoy the stunning Roses Valley at the end of the day before reaching the Dades Valley. The Valley of the Roses is carved by the Assif M’Goun river, winding its way to Kalaat M’Gouna. A thrilling 30 km paved road runs alongside the river, offering excellent views of the captivating red rock and green valley combination.
Roses Valley / Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Merzouga Desert
Boumalne Dades - After breakfast, journey to the Sahara Desert through the famous Dades Valley. Stop for photos before heading to Tinghir Oasis and then to Todra Gorges.
Tinghir - Tinghir is an oasis about 30 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide. The climate is arid subtropical, with hot, dry winters due to its altitude (1,430 meters). There are a few rainy days per year, with the most precipitation in fall and winter.
Pause to enjoy this stunning oasis, capture amazing photos, then continue to the renowned Todra Gorges, Morocco’s grand canyon.
Gargantas del Todra - The Todgha Gorges are a series of limestone river canyons in the eastern High Atlas Mountains near Tinerhir.
The last 600 meters of the Todgha gorge are the most spectacular. Here, the canyon narrows to a flat stony track, sometimes as narrow as 10 meters, with sheer rock walls up to 160 meters high on each side.
During the dry season, the canyon floor is mostly dry, with perhaps a small stream. During this time, the wadi floor is easily traversed by travelers. In the rainy season, however, the Todra can swell significantly, covering the canyon floor with a strong torrent.
Enjoy free time to walk and appreciate this amazing attraction, a top destination for rock climbers.
Erfoud - After lunch, reach Erfoud, the last major city before the Sahara Desert. It is an oasis town where the Ziz Valley and Todra Valley converge. Erfoud is known as the capital of dates and fossils.
This area of Morocco resembles certain areas on Mars in appearance and possibly geology, making it a field research location for Mars analogue research.
In February 2013, the Austrian Space Forum spent a month with a field team, including two space suit simulators and several rovers, conducting numerous experiments. They were supported by a Mission Support Center in Innsbruck, Austria, simulating a mission to Mars.
Merzouga Experience: Explore the Desert & Enjoy Outdoor Activities
Erg Chebbi - By sunset, reach the main destination, the famous Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Travel by 4x4 to the desert glamping site, where you’ll be welcomed with mint tea, have a tent with shower/bathroom, and prepare for a warm dinner in a traditional restaurant tent.
After dinner, enjoy local drumming music around the campfire, share local dances with the team, and have free time to experience the bright starry sky. If the weather is favorable, you might see shooting stars and possibly the Milky Way.
Merzouga Desert - Anti Atlas Mountains - Ouarzazate - High Atlas Mountains - Marrakech
Rissani - Begin the day with a beautiful sunrise, followed by breakfast in the desert glamping before meeting the driver at the meeting point to start the journey back to Marrakech.
After an hour’s drive, reach Rissani, the last major city before the Sahara Desert, known for its donkey parking.
After Rissani, explore a destination popular with filmmakers due to the stunning Sahara Desert surroundings. Films like The Mummy, Prince of Persia, and SPECTRE were shot in these rugged desert mountains. Continue driving through the famous Acacia Valley to Alnif, then Tazarine and N’kob.
Nkob - After a few hours’ drive, stop in N’kob, the village of 45 Kasbahs, surrounded by two oases full of palm trees. Many of these ancient kasbahs have been renovated into hotels.
Draa Valley - After lunch, travel along the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river at 1,100 kilometers. It is formed by the confluence of the Dadès and Imini Rivers, flowing from the High Atlas Mountains southeastward to Tagounite, then mostly westward to its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean north of Tan-Tan. Enjoy the stunning views of kasbahs and palm trees.
Agdz - Make a quick stop for a panoramic photo of the lush oasis and Jebel el Kissane at Agdz. Agdz is located along the old caravan route linking Marrakech to Timbuktu and played a significant role in the exchange of goods across the Sahara.
Anti-Atlas Mountains - Enjoy another wonderful view offered by the Anti Atlas Mountains and Ait Saoun Mountains. Take a short break for a photo before continuing to Ouarzazate and the High Atlas Mountains.
Ouarzazate - From Ouarzazate, follow the same road as the first day of the tour. You are now 4 hours from Marrakech, enjoying the views offered by the Atlas Mountains.
Tizi n Tichka - Take a short break for coffee and a bathroom stop, then drive back to Marrakech after a long journey from the Merzouga Desert. The drive usually takes 10 to 11 hours, depending on stops and lunch time.
Marrakech - By sunset (depending on the season), reach the final destination, Marrakech. The expert driver/guide will drop you off at your hotel accommodation or the nearest point accessible by car to the riad. This marks the end of the service, and we look forward to your next adventure trip to Morocco.
