DAY 1: Marrakech – Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
Tizi n’Tichka - Departing at 7:30 am from Marrakech, the journey heads towards Dades Valley via the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass (2260 m) in the High Atlas Mountains. There will be opportunities to pause and appreciate the winding roads, breathtaking landscapes, and Berber villages. A visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, recognized in 1987, is included.
Ait Ben Haddou - The next stop is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, designated since 1986, where a few Berber families continue to reside with UNESCO’s support. Ait Ben Haddou has served as a natural backdrop for numerous films, including “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Jesus of Nazareth.” With a guide, visitors can walk across the dried river to explore Ait Ben Haddou, which overlooks the Kasbah, reaching the top of the hill.
Ouarzazate - The journey continues through Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” where the Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas studios can be explored. The route passes through the Skoura Oasis, a lush haven of olive groves and fruit trees, before arriving at the captivating Dades Valley.
El Kelaa M’gouna - The next destination is Kelaa Magouna, a Berber city that hosts the Festival of Roses annually during the first week of May.
Dades Gorges - Upon reaching Boumalne Dades, the route follows the Dades River along a winding road lined with many fortified kasbahs. This road leads to the Dades Canyons, where arrival is expected in the late afternoon. Check into the hotel, enjoy dinner, and spend the night in Dades.
DAY 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Risani – Merzouga
Gargantas del Todra - After breakfast at the hotel in Dades Valley, the journey continues along the Road of 1001 Kasbahs. This picturesque route winds through the Dades Valley, passing numerous ancient kasbahs, or fortified dwellings, which reflect the region’s rich history and culture.
Stops will be made at several kasbahs along the way, offering opportunities to explore and learn about their history. A viewpoint stop will provide stunning views of the valley.
In the afternoon, the journey reaches the oasis of Tinghir, home to numerous palm groves and date plantations. A walk through the oasis offers a chance to enjoy the serene setting.
Check into the hotel in Tinghir for dinner. After dinner, there is free time to explore the town or relax at the hotel.
Rissani - After some free time to explore the cliffs and enjoy lunch, the journey continues early in the afternoon to Rissani. This small town is renowned for its dates market and its historical role as the starting point for commercial caravans that crossed the Sahara Desert to Timbuktu.
Arrival in Rissani is expected in the late afternoon, with check-in at the hotel. Dinner will be followed by a traditional Moroccan performance.
Merzouga Desert - After a brief pause, the journey proceeds to Merzouga, a small town on the edge of the Sahara Desert. The route passes through rocky desert landscapes. Upon arrival in Merzouga, there is an opportunity to cool off in the pool before embarking on a sunset desert journey to the camp. A camel caravan will lead the way across the stunning, color-changing sand dunes against the sunset backdrop, arriving at the Sahara desert tent just before nightfall.
DAY 3: Merzouga – Ouarzazate – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
Merzouga - An early morning camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes leads to the camp operator’s lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, there is time for a shower and, if time permits, a quick swim in the lodge pool.
Ouarzazate - The return journey to Ouarzazate includes a visit to Kasbah Taourirte. There is free time for lunch, and those interested can visit the Cinema Museum, located opposite Taourirt Kasbah. The museum features a collection of old film sets, props, and cinematic equipment, offering insights into Morocco’s filmmaking history.
High Atlas Mountains - After some leisure time for lunch, the journey continues in the afternoon to Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains.
