It was an awesome experience... we love being able to walk through history and see what it was like for the prisoners.

Tom was our tour guide. He was the best guide I’ve had for any tour I’ve taken anywhere. I had taken his tour once before, and was happy to see he was going to be our guide this time. There were only three of us on the tour. He answered all of our questions and you could tell he was very passionate about the place. I definitely plan on bringing more people through

The information on the audio guide was very interesting and I loved being able to walk around the site at my own pace and take as much time as needed. I think there was a good balance of audio “stops” and placards with information but not too many so it didn’t look cluttered. The museum part was great and had a lot of good information. The unfinished and abandoned look of the reformatory is amazing and beautiful. Loved every bit of it!

My brother was incarcerated at Mansfield back in the late 80’s. I had a natural curiosity as to where he was housed. I did not expect to find such a beautiful structure. It was awe inspiring. The craftsmanship and detail are not found today. I also enjoyed learning some of its history as well as seeing the sets from The Shawshank Redemption. We were on a time limit so we didn’t really get to spend as much time reading the plaques and watching the videos along the tour. We’ll be back.
