• Blue Grotto (Il-Hnejja) - The Blue Grotto in Malta is a breathtaking natural wonder celebrated for its pristine waters, distinctive geological formations, and vibrant hues, making it an essential destination for tourists.
• Valletta - Often likened to an open-air museum and a living historical artifact, Valletta’s streets and landmarks invite exploration and admiration. The city is adorned with Baroque architecture at every turn, offering numerous historical buildings to appreciate. Although the city spans just 1km by 600m, Europe’s southernmost capital is rich in historical sites. UNESCO recognized Valletta as “one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world” when it designated it a World Heritage Site. Visitors can discover some of Europe’s finest artworks, churches, and palaces in Valletta.
• Marsaxlokk - Marsaxlokk is a quaint, traditional fishing village in Malta’s South Eastern Region. It features a harbor and is a popular tourist spot known for its scenic views, fishing, and history. As a bustling fishing town, Marsaxlokk is unsurprisingly the best place in Malta for fresh seafood. The village promenade, overlooking Marsaxlokk harbor, is lined with many well-loved restaurants.
• Dingli Cliffs - Dingli Cliffs are situated on Malta’s western coast near the charming village of Dingli. They provide sweeping coastal views and rise 253 meters above sea level. Locals cherish the cliffs as the place where the sky and sea converge, being the highest point on the Maltese Islands. The cliffs offer stunning vistas of the Mediterranean Sea, the small terraced fields, and the tiny uninhabited island of Filfla. Walking along the cliffs, one can find a beautiful little chapel dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene perched on the cliff’s edge. A longer hike leads to another awe-inspiring spot, the Blue Grotto. Witnessing the sunset against the blue sea is enchanting.
• Mdina - Mdina - Old Capital City - Within its fortified walls, Mdina’s timeless allure has captivated nobility for 4,000 years. With narrow, cobbled streets steeped in mystery, Mdina transports visitors back in time. Malta’s old capital, Mdina, has been known by various names depending on its rulers and its role over 4,000 years since its founding. This journey through time reveals a remarkable blend of Baroque and medieval architecture in its winding streets, beautifully adorned and preserved churches, majestic palaces, and fortified walls, turning this silent city into an outdoor museum.
• Mosta Rotunda - The town of Mosta is famous for its enormous rotunda church, which boasts the third-largest dome in the Christian world. The church narrowly escaped destruction in 1942 when a 200kg bomb fell through the dome without detonating. Miraculously, none of the 300 people attending mass inside were harmed, and the bomb was safely defused. A replica of the bomb is displayed inside the church.
• Three Cities - Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua, collectively known as the Three Cities of Malta, are living historical treasures preserved over centuries. These are vibrant communities where neighbors know each other and warmly welcome visitors. Gardjola Gardens in Senglea’s bastions offer stunning views of the Grand Harbour, Fort St. Angelo, built on the site of a castle, and the Inquisitor’s Palace with restored rooms. The Birgu waterfront is a delightful spot to enjoy a meal and admire the glamorous yachts.
• Hagar Qim Temples - The Megalithic Temples of Malta are prehistoric monumental structures built during the 4th millennium BC. They are among the earliest free-standing stone buildings in the world and are notable for their variety of form and decoration. Majestically set on a wide-open plain by the coast near the village of Qrendi, these archaeological treasures were used for the worship of a fertility goddess. These temples are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
