The journey to Cemara Lawang village takes approximately 3 hours, not due to the distance, but because of Java’s traffic conditions.

On the way from Surabaya to Cemara Lawang village, you will visit the captivating Madakaripura waterfalls. These waterfalls are a hidden gem and hold sacred significance for the local Tengger Hindu community.

Once the car is parked, a 15-minute motorbike ride (with driver) will take you to the waterfall entrance. From there, it’s a relatively easy 30-minute walk each way. Be prepared to get wet.

The waterfalls can only be visited when it hasn’t rained heavily, as the water flow can become too dangerous.

Ngadisari, Kalikajar - Cemara Lawang village is beautifully located at the edge of the caldera, offering stunning views.

Experience local village life, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in a local home, meet farmers in the fields, and visit the local market.

Sunrise at Mount Penanjakan - Sand Sea - Luhur Poten Temple - Bromo Crater - Surabaya

Gunung Penanjakan - At around 03:00 in the morning, your Jeep will be ready for departure. You will be driven to one of the highest and most renowned viewpoints, Penanjakan.

If weather conditions allow, you can witness the sunrise at an altitude of 2,770 m. On clear days, you can also see Java’s highest mountain, Mount Semeru, and the Java Sea north of Mount Bromo.

Sand Sea - After the sunrise and once you feel warm again, the Jeep ride continues. You will descend Mount Penanjakan and enter the Sand Sea.

The black volcanic ash Sand Sea stretches about 10 km and borders the Bromo volcano on the northern side. If you wish to walk in this moonlike landscape, ask the driver to stop the Jeep.

Luhur Poten Temple - The Jeep will park in the Sand Sea near Luhur Poten temple. It is then a 45-minute hike each way to the top of Mount Bromo. Along the way, you will pass the Luhur Poten temple. It is often closed, but if open, feel free to ask for a look inside.

Mount Bromo - As you walk to the top of Mount Bromo, which is not the highest peak in the area, take your time to admire the impressive landscape. Exercise caution at the crater rim.

Ngadisari, Kalikajar - Once back at your Jeep, you will be driven back to your hotel for breakfast. Enjoy a refreshing shower and perhaps a short rest before checking out.

Then, you will head back to Surabaya city.
