Fantastic experiences with an awesome guide! - Our tour had begun in the morning with the Vranjaca Cave/Stella Croatica/Klis Fortress/Salona tour, by the same operator (That's It!). We had messaged them beforehand to arrange a single van and driver for both tours and they were happy to oblige. We very much recommend connecting these two tours if you have a full day available. Melinda had picked us up promptly on time in the morning in a van perfect for our group of four not-so-senior couples. She did a great job of showing us all the sights on the morning tour and kept us on time to start the 2-hour drive down the coast from Split to Biokovo. The two hours are well spent. The drive down the beautiful Dalmatian coast is a highlight of the tour in itself. We had a perfect September day winding along high cliffs and through seaside towns, occasionally stopping for a viewpoint pic or a snack and drink break. We arrived at the entrance to Biokovo in the early afternoon. Be warned, the drive up to the cliff is almost as thrilling (or, terrifying, depending on your affinity for heights) as the Skywalk itself. It's about 9km and 30 minutes of switchbacks up a near-vertical cliff on a one-way road with minimalistic (read: none) guard rails and hairpin turns so tight it required a three-point turn on at least one occasion. The guards at the bottom and top gates take a philosophical approach to coordination of traffic, which resulted in multiple hair-raising games of "chicken" midway up. Melinda won more than she lost;) Absolutely 100% worth the white knuckles though. Melinda handled the drive like a pro (with a manual transmission!), and the views from both the road and the Skywalk are beyond amazing. One can see up and down the Dalmatian coast, almost to Italy on a clear day. We spent about a half hour at the Skywalk, taking pics and terrifying ourselves. Another warning, restroom facilities are present but...not great. The good news is that a few miles down the road is Vosac Lodge, a brand new (they were still finishing some areas) hiking and biking destination in the middle of the Biokovo plateau. They drive through the plateau is almost as beautiful as the drive up, and a lot less scary. We were not prepared for the beauty of Biokovo, we all remarked how we would love to come back and stay and hike for a week. The Lodge was a great place for a drink and snack break after the Skywalk, what a beautiful area. We had the place to ourselves and really enjoyed the time there. Then it was back down the way we came. The drive down was even more exciting (?) than the drive up, but once again Melinda was in perfect control. The whole Biokovo experience was a blast. We ended our day with dinner at Konoba Veza, a short drive from the entrance to Biokovo. What a perfect end to a great day. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere on the terrace is relaxed, the service is friendly, and the food was amazing, some of the best we had in Croatia (or anywhere!). We highly recommend adding a reservation. We broke up the drive back to Split with a stop in Omis, a beautiful and bustling (it was Saturday night) vacation town. It was good to have a short walk to stretch the legs and a gelato to stretch our belts. The highlight of our tour was...the guide. We had such a fun time with Melinda, it was like driving around the countryside with an old friend. She did an amazing job herding us rowdy Americans from point to point, keeping us safe with her fierce driving skills, keeping us fed and watered at gas stations and amazing Konobas, and entertained by sharing bits of her personal life with us. She had to deal with us for a very long day, and we appreciated every minute. Thanks Melinda, and That's It!
