Maai Mahiu - Travel north down the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. A brief stop at Viewpoint offers a chance to capture stunning photos of this incredible natural wonder. The history of this valley dates back thousands of years to significant earth movements that caused major shifts in the earth’s foundational rocks. This vast valley extends from the Middle East through East Africa to Mozambique in Southern Africa, encompassing great lakes such as Victoria, Turkana, Baringo, Bogoria, Nakuru, Naivasha, Elementaita, Magadi, Natron, and Tanganyika. Journey through the Great Rift Valley, with its dramatic landscapes and plains inhabited by Maasai pastoralists, and traverse Kenya’s ‘bread basket’ covered with acres of wheat and barley.
Maasai Mara National Reserve - At 4pm, embark on an evening game drive to spot black-maned Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Cheetahs, Buffalos, and other plains game. Sightings of Rhinos and Leopards are not guaranteed, as they are few in number, very shy, and elusive, requiring a bit of luck.
Full Day in Masai Mara
Maasai Mara National Reserve - Spend a full day (from 0630-1600hrs) game viewing across the rich, tree-studded grasslands and rolling hills. This reserve is Kenya’s most visited park and offers excellent game viewing due to its extensive road and track network, providing superb photography and close viewing opportunities. The renowned Mara is famous for its large herds of plains game, black-maned Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs. It also hosts numerous Elephants and virtually every type of wildlife found in Kenya. Antelopes, Wildebeests, Zebras, and Maasai Giraffes are visible, along with scavengers like Hyenas and Vultures. Birdlife is abundant, with over 450 species recorded.
Maasai Mara National Reserve - At 1700hrs, visit a nearby Masai Village to experience their nomadic lifestyle. (An additional fee is payable directly to the Maasai villagers – The Maasai are renowned for their bravery, having co-existed with wildlife over the years.) The rest of the evening is spent at leisure, with dinner and an overnight stay at the Camp/Lodge.
