As the weekend dawns in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, the allure of Mount Longonot beckons adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike. This dormant stratovolcano, nestled within the Great Rift Valley, offers a thrilling escape from the urban hustle. On May 31st, the day begins with overcast skies, gradually giving way to partial clouds, creating a perfect backdrop for a hike. The Mt. Longonot Private Hiking Tour promises an exhilarating journey, starting at 6:00 AM and stretching until 5:00 PM. This private tour not only offers a chance to conquer the mountain but also to witness the breathtaking views of the crater and the surrounding wildlife.
The hike is a moderate challenge, requiring a decent level of physical fitness, but the rewards are immense. As you ascend, the panoramic views of the Rift Valley unfold, revealing a landscape that has been shaped over millions of years. The opportunity to spot wildlife such as zebras, giraffes, and even the elusive leopard adds an element of excitement to the trek. One recent review from March 2025 captures the essence of this adventure:
A fantastic adventure - At nearly the last minute I decided I wanted to hike Mt Longonot. I found Perfect Wilderness and couldn’t be happier I asked them for the tour. I had a lot of questions beforehand and tour agent Betty answered all of them quick and perfectly. Once in Kenya, their driver Benard helped me get to the volcano and back safely and comfortably. We had a lot of nice conversations and I enjoyed it a lot. Once at the location I was handed over to my guide Joshua. He was perfect and I was very lucky to have him guide me. Friendly, knowledgeable, fun, great to talk to and helped me take some amazing photos. In a bit of extra luck, the weather was fantastic and we nearly had the whole volcano to ourselves! I highly recommend this tour. (Reviewed at: 2025-03-13)
