Ruins in the jungle, this is where it is at, great tour. - We booked through Princess Cruises shore excursions. About a 45 minutes one way bus ride to get to the site, well worth the time. Our guide was native Mayan he said, told us about the language and history of the site, he was very knowledgeable. We climbed up the ruins where we were allowed to do so, and respected the rope barrier where we were not to go. We would do one of these again if we come back to this port.

Great smaller group experience - We had a great day visiting the Mayan temples. We had a small group and a private tour guide, Ismael. By comparison to the cruise ship excursions groups of 50 or more, I much preferred this small group. Highly recommend you go off-ship and book with Viator.

This was our first time... - We were EXTREMELY fortunate to have Ismael as our guide from the Costa Maya tour operator. Being a local farmer from the village, he was unbelievable in sharing his knowledge and made the experience so enjoyable! HIGHLY recommend!

It's about a hour drive... - It's about a hour drive from the pick up point. You will walk on uneven surfaces and up the steep steps of the ruins. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. It's definitely worth the experience.

Very considerate of time and still had plenty - The directions to the operator seemed pretty good but there were multiple groupings of taxis so we kept thinking we were there. After the final group of taxis there was a round about and the company had a white board that had a list of names written on it so we knew we had arrived to the right place. Our guide Ismael was EXCELLENT!! Our van of 9 people didn’t really talk on the 44 minute drive out to the ruins but when we arrived Ismael jumped into guide mode and took all of our pictures, educated us all, and answered every question we had. Upon our return to the van they had soda and water and fried plantains for each of us. They were very conscientious of the time and had us back to the port in plenty of time for our 12:15 boarding (we were there by 11:30 so we even got a little shopping in). I would definitely recommend this trip!

We were delayed, but given a personalized tour - Had a great time! We were delayed so we didn’t travel and experience the tour with a larger crowd,,instead we were driven to and from, received a smaller personalized tour of Chacchoben.
