great and safe Local Tour at a better price - The tour guide was very friendly and professional, the tour bus was comfortable, and they offered icy drinking water to help us stay hydrated., The price is half than the excursions booked on the cruise—you can simply walk out from the port of Costa Maya to the taxi area, where you’ll find this local tour that I highly recommend.”

Authentic and Personal Experience - Absolutely exceptional customer service from Toucan Tours! From the moment we met the first representative in port we were cared for and considered “familia.”They are not hard to find. Just walk the entire path through the shops to the port exit. Their contact will be waiting in an area right there. Then you will be taken in a van a couple blocks to their main office, which has comfortable under roof seating and restrooms. My husband loved his “breakfast beer” and tequila shot! Throughout the trip we had plenty of cold bottled water. The van was very comfortable and it was great to have the AC. Eliseo was a fantastic guide and was so knowledgeable about Costa Maya, its development, and the Mayan culture. Every local we met was so kind. The Mayan ruins were incredible and this trip has sparked my interest to learn more. On the way back we stopped at a little fruit stand, which was a highlight! We ate delicious and fresh mango and pineapple slices and pineapple corn bread. It really hit the spot! US dollars were accepted to buy souvenirs and snacks. On the way back, almost everyone took a little nap. Also, be sure to bring some cash to tip your guide. This team is working so hard to provide a 5 star experience! Investing in local companies is important and the experience is better by far.

Very positive experience - This experience was great, our tour guide Carlos was awesome with lots of facts and history about the land and the ruins. They also made sure we had plenty of cold water the whole day. We even got to stop for a handmade empanada.

Calm activity - Our tour guide was super nice and knowledgeable. He took the time to talk to everyone and gave us many opportunities to ask questions. We took a large tour bus with very nice, cold AC. We also stopped on the side of the road to get some fruit from a local on the way to the beach which was fun. It’s definitely more of a chill day activity. The beach was beautiful also with little shops to look in and you can order food right on the beach. The chairs were free to sit on.

Must Do, Must Do, Must Do! - It's a bit of walking so be prepared to be in the elements. It's WORTH every penny and I would make this a priority if you are visiting the area or Coasta Maya. They made sure we were back to the ship with PLENTY of time and made sure our arrival back to port was their priority. Bring cash because all of the shops are CASH ONLY. 10/10 would recommend. Carlos was amazing and friendly.

Chacchoben Mayan Ruin Tour - Informative and Interesting Tour - Fun and informative tour. Everyone in the port was very helpful to find the tour provider, Toucan Tours. They are located inside the port walls near the exit so do not exit the port area to meet the shuttle. The tour guides were friendly and informative and gave us the option to go to the beach or back to the port after the Mayan ruin tour which was nice. The guides did provide water but we did miss the free beer/tequila because we boarded the main bus quickly after checking in after the shuttle ride. So we weren't able to partake in that included beverage. The guide was very informative during the 45 minute bus ride and while at the ruin site. The only negative we had was that the air conditioner did not work very well in the back of the bus so it got pretty hot during the ride. We had some handheld fans that helped a little bit but it was still pretty hot. If you go then try to get a seat towards the front of the bus. Overall, it was a good tour and we would definitely recommend it to others visiting Costa Maya.

Avoid unless you feel lucky… - We waited approx 45 minutes to get on the assigned transportation to the ruins, which cut into the amount of time at the ruins. Other people arrived at the location to sign in after us, but they were immediately placed into vehicles. This was constant until we were finally put on a bus where we had to wait another 15 minutes for the bus to fill up. There was no empathy or care. The tour guide was friendly, and did a wonderful job going between Spanish and English. Unfortunately, the wait and long trip made for an experience we regret being a part of.
