“Plaza del Arrabal” was the original name of the present day “Plaza Mayor”. The “Plaza del Arrabal” was once the site of the most popular marketplace until the end of 15th century. Following the Constitution of 1812, all major plazas in Spain were renamed “Plaza de la Constitución”. It also held this name 1820 to 1823, 1833 to 1835, 1840 to 1843, and 1876 to 1922. When the Borbón king was restored in 1814, it became known as the “Plaza Real”. In 1873, the name changed to “Plaza de la República”. At the end of the Spanish Civil War the plaza received its present name of “Plaza Mayor”.

A complete and highly recommended experience at the Royal Palace - The best thing about our visit to the Royal Palace was the treatment of the Fun & Ticket team. Nuria was super friendly and helped us choose the ideal tour. Already on the tour, Luis Miguel was an exceptional guide: he kept us entertained with his explanations and proved to know enough about every corner of the palace. He even gave us tips on where to go next. Thank you both for the experience!

First-rate care and guidance - Very good visit to the Royal Palace of Madrid. We appreciate Nuria’s excellent care and the great guidance of Luis Miguel, who gave us valuable cultural and historical information at all times and an excellent summary of Madrid’s highlights. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Guided Tour of the Royal Palace - Excellent tour of the Royal Palace! We began at the ticket office and walked together to the Palace, with the guide pointing out nearby landmarks and sharing helpful historical context along the way. We really appreciated the small group size—there were only five of us—which made the experience feel personal and relaxed (not sure if that was due to the off-season).
My older American parents had some difficulty understanding the guide’s accent at times, but he was extremely patient, happy to repeat information, and very open to questions. He was clearly very knowledgeable and also offered great recommendations for additional activities and restaurants in the area. Overall, a wonderful experience that we would highly recommend!

Gorgeous Palace not to be missed! - Starting point takes you through interesting parts of old city before reaching Palace. Lines were very long, we got right in with our guide. Skip the line is well worth it! Very knowledgeable guide. Gorgeous palace!

It was a good tour. I... - It was a good tour. I liked that we were given headphones so no matter how far away you are from the guide you can always hear what they are saying. Frederick was very knowledgeable (sometimes spoke a little fast, but not terrible). I enjoyed that we walked al little around Madrid before going to the palace. I learned more about the history of the Kings. The palace was fascinating to see. Overall it was longer than I expected (in a good way). I would recommend this tour. You learn more from it than walking around the palace by yourself.

False descriptions - We booked a semi private tour of 15 people max, says by their description. However they accepted anyone that came, and left 10 minutes later than scheduled. We had a group of 30+ people in the end and couldn’t hear what the tour guide said for half of the time

Royal Palace Madrid - We had a very bed expirience with Fun & Tickets in Madrid. Arrived at Royal Palace on time, checked with securty we are in the correct line and all is ok. When the line starts to move we find out meeting point for our tickets is on another location. It was our fault not to check the details but that was not a priority after a night spent in hospital. Run to their office to arrive as soon as possible (arrived at 10.20 am) where employees showed no empaty or will to help, only rude behaviar, bad english skills and ability to charge us additional 50€ for rescheduling. They did not want to call their manager or knew much about filling a claim report. They didn't want to meet us in any way, shape or form. According to them we could only forget our money and let it go or pay them more money. It was a completely unprofessional and disrespectful approach towards us as customers and tourists. We end up paying more and reschaduling which confirmed us they could have connected us with their guide or employee in front of palace because we entered the palace at 10.50 am (before that we thured part of city around the palace) but they choose not to help us. The tour guide was nice but in general it was very negative experience for us.
